Silverlight wont help you Coz, People Doesnt know what specialty you have got, unless your site is well promoted

I think there is always room for any kind of membership site. I just think you need to be niche specific. People on plenty of fish go there because it is 100% free. You can talk to other people through email and chat without having to pay.

Anyways, why don't you start out small offering it to a specific niche of people.
Here are some ideas I have...
1. Christians, you can even narrow that down to a specific religion.
2. Gays guys and girls.
3. A specific race. Like Italians, Irish, or whatever.

I really think you should make it niche specific. You could even do it just as a college only dating website. Like for people in college. They are like minded and looking for the same thing.

thanks man, I already created a niche site to test my codebase and I got it up to 900 members or so. but i was only making a few dollars a month off addsense. Mostly becase I only had one add I think? This time I am spamming adds on the website although not intrusively.

There is no niche that is too crowded to enter...
you can work in any niche you like...you just have to be competitive enough and you Definitely need to think outside the box...
don't go by their techniques... try thinking of your own techniques...new un-thought of design... a new fun way for meeting people...

Site review: looks good but home page is slow to load. when I put in my zipcode it froze up.

You can try. Pick a niche. Work it hard. Getting started and attracting a critical amount of people is paramount in the beginning.

And the page does load very slowly (like a date site for seniors... ),
plus
the width of the girl's face should not be extended nor compressed to window size. Think of maintaining the picture ratio during auto-fit, or it does not look good.

The bigger question is the biz model

DO you charge a one time or annual fee ?

OR go the freemium route as in games and put ads and offers on site and let people in free?

For example one company with an Iphone game does the freemium model and apparently they make (from their own mouths) around 80 thousand US dollars a month from game upgrades and ads however how much from the ads is of course unknown.
And this you see is why I want to get my games done however its very complicated to do more than 1 player Iphone game as you need a server and all sorts.

There are a few plugins that enable the membership site on WordPress. And I think you can find them in our forum.

There are some enabling several levels of membership - free and various paid ones - (silver, gold platinum).

You can get everybody on the free level first and then tease them to upgrade. And the latest word is to make them with regular payments, but with a fixed term, say 10 weekly or 6 monthly payments (Russell Brunson introduced a term micro-continuity for this). It gives the customers a feeling of a more determined outcome.

yah i'm going with the free model with tons of adds , the site only loads slow becase its on a temp server i need to get it moved when my designer is finisghed thanks for the comments.

what if you collected peoples emails thats signed up for your dating site and sent them Diet and Biz Op Offers..

It is my experience that there is no such thing as too crowded. I have a rule that the more competition there is, the better - it means that there is money being made in that market. High competition means that people are investing too. I'd steer clear of markets that have no competition.
