How to fill a brand new forum?

I need ideas on how to fill brand new forums for some of our projects?

I'm not sure how the feeds would work? Wouldn't any visitors to the forum realize they are feeds?

just pay someone to create some profiles and post about 100 post each. then do some seo and then it will get visitors and traffic soon.

Find 2-3 like minded persons and start it off. I started my forum 3 years ago and although we are not a hug community we are focused, have lots of posts and are #1 for some decent kw's

My own account has the most posts, why? I love the topic and its very important to me so the traffic came naturally after we gave it a kick start with on topic, laser focused threads

Yes, that the best way to go, if you love the topic, you'll find yourself creating a lot of posts, that will get your forum indexed, and the traffic will come. Start building backlinks, and posting to other forums related to yourse with a link to your forum in your sig (although don't do that until you have a proper amount of posts). Hope it helps.

If you like to invest money I think adwords is a good way (when you have a "normal" forum) :P

I've filled many of my forums with the help of adwords. Especially if you have some existing members you can promote cheaper long tail keywords

The industry standard is to hire people to post for a $1 each post. We have the money for it, but most don't. Was hoping to get some creative ideas from you guys (which I did). Thanks everyone, I think we are going to hit up the microworker style sites.

After you get a few focused threads going that contain content rich posts from any of the excellent suggestions already given, try hosting a giveaway centered around the topic of your forum. Pick something that people interested in that subject would really like. That way you will draw people who are more likely to hang around. Then submit your giveaway details to all of the giveaway & sweepstakes sites. Not only is this a great way to siphon traffic from these web sites, you will also be building valuable contextual backlinks to help boost the forum's PR and thus it's position in the search engines.

Many offer monthly packages like: 50 new members and 1000 postings. The postings are usually very good and relevant, Ideal for getting the conversation started

I don't know shit about forums but I know that when you start a project where you personal interests are involved you're always likely to succeed because you like what you do and you don't care working without seeing any money coming in.
