Beware all you With e*bay affiliate sites out there
Hey All,
TMD here, If you are not aware I am the coder writing some scripts for the e*bay affiliate program (ie COOOOkie stuffing, RSS feeds, API ect.)
Anyhow, the New e*bay partner network just came online last night. And of course I was one of the first to register because of my membership in the API program.
The first thing I did was starting playing with new links codes and tools in the program. Although some of the new links are similar - they have added a few new twists into the mix.
Now here is the warning:
After May 1, 2008 All the BAN*S, PH*Bay PRO, WordPress Plugins, RSS FEEDS, XML FEEDS or any other custom e*bay affiliate scripts will not work. In fact - after this date on some links - you may get the CJ error page of "invalid link - affiliate no longer a network partner"
Also, from one of my contacts within e*bay, it is going to be harder to get away with stuffing these affiliate links, they have set up a team just to monitor this type of activity. So, if anyone is using the simple techniques such as iframes, Javascript, meta redirect and the like. Be warned, that these methods are going to be uncovered quickly.
I was hoping that if would be as easy as just typing a new affiliate PID in place of the old CJ PID - But not the case at all. The links are going to have to be either indiviually restructured or just replaced with new ones.
I suspect that BAN*S and PH*bay PRO and others are going to write an updated code, but havent heard anything yet. But those of you that I using a Pirate*d Copy of any of these scripts might be SOL without any updates.
I have already began to recode some of the copies of these and other scripts that I have. Lucky they are all written in PHP, using RSS and XML feeds.
Now there is some good points with the new program:
the reporting seems to be much better than CJ , from my contacts with API - there will be quite a bit more choice in link types, widgets, ect in the near future.
This is going to keep me busy for the month , I am already getting lots of calls about scripting new links - even got one from a well know guru out there (cant mention his name - he is smart - just scripting illiterate)
You can now get paid through Paypal - Although I like getting those large checks from CJ - Dumping the money in PayPal with be so much easier. There is also a direct deposit option to a Bank account.
And, for those of you interested , I am have began to rescript my "legal Cooooookie stuffin" script for the new e*bay partner network.
Good Luck to all
Go ahead and Comment - we all know you want to...........

Re: Beware all you With e*bay affiliate sites out there
Just an update here - I took me a couple of hours to rescript a simple site - BUT , think I got the mix of how e*bay is using the rover and API now. The JavaScript they are pulling is a mess though. Most of my time was spent trying to find an easy way of doing it.
HINT:
Also your new PID's are under the Campaign section in your dashboard - there seems no way easy way to automate (even with dreamweaver) the changing of the scripts.
I pity the guy like me that has over 200 sites with these links in them.
Oh well, back to work.

Re: Beware all you With e*bay affiliate sites out there
OK, I guess I see what you're saying here. We just swap out the PID for the new Campaign ID, right? I don't have 100 sites yet...but that is my ultimate goal.
As for the updates, we've already seen the BA*NS update here so php*Bay can't be far behind. Now, what about Craigs*Agent? That's a frickin gold mine.
As for the stuff*ing, as long as we continue using ways that are untraceable, we should be fine I'm guessing. Thanks for the update, though.
I'd like to see your script when you're finished with it.

Re: Beware all you With e*bay affiliate sites out there
I just used the invisible code generator thingy, then went into create a link and entered my settings, then just pasted the entire code into the Invisible code generator.
It gave me the code and when I tested it, ebay had loaded a lot of cookies into my computer

No. He was saying you can't do an easy swap out of the CJ links for the new EPN links. I only have a few platforms running ebay RSS feeds or search results - the first couple of days, it was a bit buggy getting my RSS feed right, but everything seems to be OK now.

Re: Beware all you With e*bay affiliate sites out there
If I am using a stuffing script with a CJ affiliate link, can I not just change the CJ link to a new Ebay affiliate link?
Both presumably must work the same...or am I completely wrong?
