Please forgive the n00bishness of this question, but I've tried to search around both on this site and the internet and am getting mixed signals regarding this subject. I thought I'd ask you, the expert what you think.

What are your feelings on scraping RSS content, aggregating feeds and displaying them as both WordPress posts and side widgets as a way to make a "content-rich" money site, or simply to drive traffic that you can put your own ad links up for? Does such a site mean that Google wouldn't allow you to use AdSense on it? Would your SERP rankings be much lower from doing this because of the "duplicate content?" Would other ad providers shun you for doing such a thing? Some research I've done seems to indicate that some scraped and aggregated sites can even rank higher than sites that generate the original source content, but I can't find enough examples of sites that do this on a small scale.

As a hypothetical, I'm thinking aggregated news data from different sources that keep author, originating site source, and other source data. Summaries displayed on main pages, with links to full content pages that stay on site but still keep attribution data including links to originating sites that pop-up. Not really looking to pull shenanigans like spin the content or remove attribution. Niches could virtually be anything. Am I wasting my time, or should I work on this?

Google does not allow content made for Adsense. Aggregated RSS content could be seen as content made for Adsense.
It is your decision anyway, but they have a reason to close your Adsense account (hypothetical :-) )

Yeah, Google may consider it content made just for adsense, if you have nothing but adsense ads and aggregated content. It's easy to add MORE than just rss content to a blog, like free plugins and sh*t. I've been autoblogging for years with adsense on my blogs, and have NEVER been busted, I've had the same adsense account for 10 years. My latest blog is 3 months old, and gets roughly 245 uniques a day, all organic, with next to NO backlinking at all, the traffic just started coming in. ALOT of my pages are just copied Wikipedia pages, and some of them DO rank higher than Wikipedia. Just search BHW for autoblogging, you'll find your answers.....

It works for me . Just add your own sauce. Adsense on dup content is risky omho.

There's a lot of sites that use aggregated content. The key is are you adding value?

started out as strictly an aggregated site. It's one of the top ranking penny stock sites and it has adsense ads all over it.

If you're going to use RSS feeds you should also look into sites that offer APIs in the same niche and use their data to add value.

Going to test some different WP plug-ins tonight and see what works the best. I'm really more focused on RSS feeds rather than content scraping, so I'm sure it will work out fine. As others have said, it is more about adding value to that refreshed content, and I believe I can do that.
