Default a little advice with translation

Hello! So, I'm gonna be hired to translate a 197 pages document, but I really have NO IDEA of how much I should charge my employer.
Just so you know, he sent a 8 pages document to test me, and when I charged him $10 he said it was very cheap.

So maybe 350~400 dollars is a good amount?

Just google and find what the standard rates are for your language. It depends a lot on the languages.

    Hey dude....

Translation is a tricky one...its a competitive market out there but you can find a pricing structure.

I always used to charge per source word, somewhere between £0.5 - £0.12 lower prices for English to Spanish, and higher prices for like English to dutch.

400 dollars sounds like you should be translating about 5000 words...as a very rough guide at $0.08 per word.

If you need and assistance with this let me know!

It also depends if you are a native speaker and if you do the proofreading. one of the biggest websites for fast and reliable translations is

    http://www.onehourtranslation.com/

there rate starts at 0.055 per word and the translators are native speakers. of course you have a huge order and this must be discounted in the price maybe that gives you an idea about the market and prices.

and for translations the best is always to charge per word!

Translation rates are generally per word basis and language, subject basis. For example indian language translation provider indianscripts charges 0.10$/word for translation into Technical Hindi and urdu translation.

On Fiverr they generally do about 300 - 500 words (for $5).
