Let's discuss about Domain Parking
Some people pmed me asking some questions, some beginners were confused about what does it mean, so here is it explained.
If you have a domain with some traffic, but you do not do anything with it, you can park it. This means that you will give your domain to a parking company, which will create a website full of ads on that domain, and you will be paid on a cpc basis. When visitors come to your website and press ads, you will be getting paid.
Some people inquire why should they park their domains instead of setting mfa sites on them or other kind of ads and just collect revenue
Some advantages of parking
-no need to design a website, the parking company will do it for you
-no need to host your website , the parking company will do it for you
-no need to put content on your website, parked domains are solely composed of ads.(You can not put adsense on a page without any content, for instance)
-the ctr on a parked page is way higher than those from mfa, because a parked page consists only of ads, so visitors have nothing else to do than click ads.
-you will get more clicks on a parked domains than on a mfa page, because many people heard about adsense and they know that they are ads, while on parked pages, people can barely realize that the page is full of ads, because ads and pages are highly customized, with pictures near them, and no trace of the famous "ads by google" or labels like "sponsored results" etc..
Even i have been tricked many times to confound a parked page with a real website and press the ads.
-you do not risk to get banned forever such as with adsense. IF you are banned in adsense, there is quite hard to get back in. If you are banned by a parking company, it is very easy to get back in at that company, and there are a lot of parked companies to test.
-the payment is done through paypal, and is much convenient than in adsense, at some companies you are paid twice per month, or on a net 5, net 10, or net 15 days. With adsense you have to wait at least one month to get paid for the previous month.
-you can have some niche not allowed by adsense, adult, gambling, pharma, etc..
Parking companies are very selective on the traffic they receive. They allow only type in or search engine traffic.
This is from the sedo tos, and all companies have similar tos
* Domain owners may not click on advertising links displayed on their own domain names, nor ask friends, family, employees, or others to do so.
* Domain owner may not beg, ask, entice, or provide incentives for visitors to click on advertising links.
* Domain owner may not re-direct traffic to their parked domain name. This prohibition includes, but is not limited to, traffic redirected from other domain names, traffic originating from advertising and purchased traffic such as pop-under or exit traffic. Each domain name must be parked separately.
* Domain owner may not display their parked page as a pop-under or pop-up window without prior written approval from Sedo.
* Domain owner may not categorize domain names in unrelated categories or specify an incorrect language parameter.
* Domain owner may not submit advertising keywords that are unrelated to the subject area of the domain name.
* Domain owner may not generate traffic to their domain name(s) or clicks on advertising links by any of the following methods: listings on newsgroups or discussion boards (with the exception of "domain for sale" postings), bulk emailing, ICQ postings, or chat room/IRC postings, iframes, zero pixel frames, hitbots, clickbots, spiders, CGI scripts, java-scripts, or any other similar method.
* Domain owner may not modify the Parking Program page or code in any way without prior approval. Only clicks originating from an unmodified, Parking Program-served parking page will be considered valid.
* Domain owner may not place the Parking Program page within a frame without prior written approval from Sedo.
* Domain owner may not mislead visitors into believing that he/she will receive anything other than an internet search by clicking on a text link or search box.
* Referring pages must not be password protected in any way.
* Sedo reserves the right to terminate your Parking Program account if it is idle for more than one month.
* Inability to comply with any of the terms of the User Agreement or the Parking Program Rules will forfeit any unpaid earnings and result in the termination of Domain owner's Parking Program account. Further legal action may be taken in response to such violations as well.
So how do people have traffic to their domains:
Whitehat way:
Misspelled domains or dropped domains with traffic
This is a quote from an old post of mine at rj forums:
It has a huge advantage and that is on completely auto pilot. Once you have everything set up, and set up in a white hat manner, you can stay for the rest of your life without any problems.
The simplest idea is purchasing domains that have traffic and park them.
In order to purchase domain that have traffic, the most popular method is to find misspelled domains.
People tend to write a website address and usually misspell it.
You can find a misspelling generator here seochat.com/seo-tools/keyword-typo-generator
or you can even install one for free here
vbbitman.com/Download/TypoGen.exe
This should give you a pretty good idea of what are the most popular typos.
In generally domains that contain double letter tend to be misspelled, like "e" instead of "ee" , those which contains hyphens, dashes, numbers, example textlinkads instead of the official text-link-ads, singular-plural confusions ex forum-forums, this is obviously, hm, those more trick like instead of "ck" to put '" k" or "c "or lets say "f "and " ph" confusion and so forth.
oh yeah, and the dot trick, as i call it. Sometimes people write an address and they forget to write the dot, or simply their keyboard is not working properly.
Therefore they write wwwsite.com instead of www[dot]site[.]com and the browser is redirecting them to www[dot]wwwsite[dot]com
You got the idea, pretty nice.
if you are serious about this, put your hands on typs generator, it shows you not only the typos but also the amount of searches done on that typos per month, approximately. Pretty good. If you want to pay for it, it was like 30 $ as i remember.
Domains with expired traffic, this is pretty obvious, check drophunt.com or premiumdrops.com justdropped.com and you get what is all about, aka purchasing dropped domains. Simple and effective.
Another trick used by domainers is domain tasting, registering domains, checking their traffic and canceling them in a certain time frame without paying anything. When i used to do this, i used dynadot.com but also premiumdrops had this service. Moniker was charging you on drops like 20 cents, so it is not worth. "
Blackhat way?
Just keep in mind what i told you about traffic accepted either search engine traffic (but not ppc) or type in.
First blackhat method is based on search engines:
-cloaking and redirecting to parked pages. I have never tried this method, but i had discussed a lot with fellow domain parking blackhatters who employ this method. It is risky and you can get banned, as it is not allowed, but is very easy to earn several thosands per month, with it, or even tens of thousands.
-sending traffic to domains from videos: If you watermark your video with an url, and people type in in their browser the address of the domain, there is no chance for the guys from domain parking companies to realize where the traffic is coming from, since there is no trace behind, but for the url on video, which can not be detected. So a way to obtain type in traffic without referrals to trace you. If you employ this technique with adult videos, some people have told me that they had their ass busted due to low conversion. Just a fair warning, perhaps you should try other niches, the adult one is already saturated.
-sending traffic from torrents. In the simplest way , you can just include an unclickable url in a doc file attached to the downloaded folder, and ask people if they want to see more stuff to write the url in their toolbar. There are even more subtle ways but you have to use your imagination.
How i started domain parking?
Simply i bought one domain, only one. After i parked it i had a website where i could send traffic and i knew that the traffic would convert well. Usually the ecpm at parked domains is like 30-40$ per 1000 visitors, which was pretty good for me. Afterwards, i just sent to it type in traffic. I made more than 1000$ that month. It was the first month when i have really made money so easily. The investition was minimum, just a domain , and the return high.
I am still doing domain parking, but not as my main sources. But my first several thousands dollars gave come from just one parked domain. I did not had a website or a hosting. Just a domain.
If i did it, you can do it as well. But pay attention with the blackhat techniques, cause you may have your ass busted if you abuse them.
These are the companies that accepts you to park with them, even if you have just one domain. Others require you to have more, but these are the basic companies

Re: Let's discuss about Domain Parking
Cool Post =)
I can see how it would be tough to get some cash from BH methods.
However as im new to this(last 2-3 months) what would happen in the case if you were to use blackhat backlinking to your parked domains? Such as automated directory listing, automated article submissions etc etc.
Thanks!

Re: Let's discuss about Domain Parking
I have done some similar things. Domain parking truly is easy money.
One tactic I use that is blackhat, is to register a domain of a well known business or person. Even if you can only get a lesser quality domain such as .info or .us this will work.
I will then go to the online job boards and start posting job ads.
I make sure that I write the ad to a job category that is well sought after.
example: marketing, administrative assistant, etc.
I write the ad copy so that it sounds like the greatest job in the world. Then I post a link that says please apply here.
That's it.
I have had really high conversions with this method, as high as 90% on some domains. But have averaged 60%.
This tactic has made me as much as $30 to $40 on one domain per day. This is only with a few job postings daily.
Hope this works for you.

I have never tried that, but you have nothing to lose. I doubt however the efficiency. A better idea would be to get a domain, put some charitable organisation text on it without any ads, submit to directories, articles, etc... , the directories will see you are a serious website with good content and they will link to you, and afterwards you change your domain from charitable organisation to a parked page or a mfa or an adult site, still keeping the original backlinks from reputable website.
The idea is that if you promote your parked domains with backlinks, they will see that the traffic is coming maily from backlinks, and in their TOS they specify they want only natural trafic-type in and search engine.
Anyway you can try and announce us. Even if you get banned, is nothing so bad, like adsense.

Re: Let's discuss about Domain Parking
hey trumpinc, did you get banned with your technique? Did you hide your referal or you just posted the hyperlink on the ad boards. Sounds cool, but a little bit risky.

I hid my url. So far I have not been banned. I use this with many different parking companies and domains.
So I could always jump ship and move to another company.

Re: Let's discuss about Domain Parking
What determines which kinds of ads appear on a parked page? Since there is no content, is it determined solely from the domain name?
I have some generic domains (not based around a keyword) that I'm not using at the moment and I'm wondering if it's better to use a domain based on a keyword.

You will choose from your domain parking menu for every website a master keyword to which all advertisement will be related.
So, yeah, they are not based on domain name.

Re: Let's discuss about Domain Parking
I have 6 domains being parked at GoldKey for months, and been receiving payment as long I reach the pay out limit. These rarely have natural/type-in traffic. I put links from my scrap sites, without hiding them. These are direct linking to the parked domains.
It was a test, but I am surprise that visitors actually click on my scrap sites and go to the parked domains. Just that the CTR% is not great. Earn just few dollars per month.

Well, for several bucks per month, no one is going to verify you. If you try to replicate what are you doing but at a larger scale, you may have some issues. I have had issues only when i made more than 1000$ per month with one single domain.

Re: Let's discuss about Domain Parking
emm...noted.
By then I should look to explore other alternatives to monetize these traffic. But well, earning woOOoping $1k per parked domain is a loOOong journey for me, I'll need to learn much more in this.

Re: Let's discuss about Domain Parking
so basically, if i have a domain that is random (ie. feit.info) i can just park it on one of these sites (listed above) an then somewhere in the setup I can choose which keyword to trigger the certain ads that will be placed on the site? then I can use the other techniques mentioned above and drive different types of traffic to this site and from there I make money? this sounds easy and I will give it a go. thanks for the post and all the other info from everyone else. this sounds like a cool additional income stream.

Would you use something like domainersedge or is there a better way?

Exoclick are the worst parking company i have ever tried. Their MAXIMUM bid was 2 cents per click and you were getting half of that amount. You can do a lot of dirty techniques with them, since they most probably won't ban you, but they pay so crappy that it is not worth the effort.

What do you mean by you hide the url?
Won't clicking on the link gives a referral which the company can track or disregard the traffic?

Hey Nick,
Do the domains you use for this have privacy added ? if not how do you hide your identity especially if using BH techniques like watermarking YouTube Videos ?

Registered at namecheap -> fake names + whois privacy.
All my domains have whois privacy. The one i use with dirty techniques are also registered with fake names. You can make as many as namecheap accounts as you want and transfer the domains among them.

How do you use fake names when you have to give them your credit card info?
Do you use a pre-paid card?

Re: Let's discuss about Domain Parking
I used to net thousand$ a month profit by doing arbitrage with Goldkey; paying .10 to $1.00 a click for adwords traffic and pushing it to a parked page, worked beautifully; I'd get maybe 10 clicks a day on the search network, and hundreds on the content network...this worked for almost a year. Next thing I know my parked page got flagged for fraudulent clicks, probably a competitor trying to knock me out in adwords, my account was shut down and I was in danger of losing several thousand$$ in adwords spend for that month because once they shut you down you don't get your check. I did eventually convince (beg) them for my payout but that was the end of it for me, couldnt justify spending $4k in adwords and risk losing my payout because some of some clickhappy competitor.
Viva la blackhat.

Re: Let's discuss about Domain Parking
synchro,
Interesting point(s). Two things:
1) I was under the impression that you could not 'buy' clicks and send them to parked domains. Are you saying that with Goldkey you CAN? Maybe I just heard that from Sedo.
2) My AdSense account was recently banned also. I have been hounding them. It sounds like if I keep on them, I might at least get the amount that they owe me!
Thanks.

You basically register with a parking company and they will put you to set the dns so that they point to their service. After that they will create a landing page for you which you can customize. You can also select what kind of ads to be displayed on the page.

Re: Let's discuss about Domain Parking
Montyz,
Goldkey was (at the time) different than the other parking sites in that they allowed SEOing fo their domains and actually encouraged it; there was nothing in the TOS about disallowing PPC traffic so I ran with it. At the time their feed was from Yahoo and had a very nice click payout. They've gone through some changes in the last year, I don't know how much of this holds true today. One thing I do know is that I tried sending traffic via cloaking and got zero credit for any of the clicks; also lesser tier PPC's like GoClick they'd basically invalidate every click from those as well; Adwords is what worked best at the time.
I've not had my adsense account banned so I can't really give any advice there, i'd keep trying however, if you are on the up and up I'd offer to share all of your stats with them.
