I've been approached about a possible venture to buy cars in the USA and export to South Africa. This is a solid market...we have the car availability and the exporter, but no South African connection. If any of you know anything about this type of deal or want to talk further...I'm interested in learning about the obstacles/possibilities this venture might provide.

I believe you have posted this in the wrong section my friend. I would move this to "joint Ventures" if i were you. You will probably get alot more feedback :)

Avoid this deal. Firstly, they drive on the other side of the road (cars are right hand drives). Secondly, the market there is for cheap cars since they have a steep currency conversion penalty.

How do I know? Grew up there.

If you do any dealing with anyone from anywhere in Africa, make sure you have the money transferred to you and it remains in your account for at least 2 weeks (banks can reverse transfers after the fact).

Sadly u cant import cars directly to south africa . U cant reg it legaly bt surrounding countrys its fine. The sa gov stop it so they can charge what they like on new cars.

I'm from there. Don't do it. Had a few friends and their parents Import Japan Sports cars to Mozambique and surrounding areas and drove them down. They started cracking down on it a few years ago and took all the cars away and cubed them...

I'm from south africa. But as far as I know you can't import cars here. People that import cars have to register them in neighbouring countries.

Our government is so fucked up, they made it illegal to import cars here to protect the local car industry, they charge ridiculous prices for cars. A while back there was an article I read about a car being made locally in south africa and was being exported to australia and it was cheaper to purchase in australia that it was in south africa even though it was made here
