I work somewhere like a fertility bank (I don't, but we'll use that as an example). So I have access to about a couple hundred new targeted emails a month. Should I send them a link to a fertility website with clickbanks ad and adsense on it? It seems wrong, plus I don't want to lose my day job and it could get traced back to me. any thoughts?

Don't risk your day job. If you think you can safely store the emails or export them on a thumb drive or similar, then keep them until you no longer want to work there. The IT department (unless thats you) is probably a lot smarter than you think and they may have screen captures on your computers to see who is spending extra time looking at things like that.

I wouldn't go anywhere near this. Just do legitimate marketing online as I'm pretty sure this could land you in jail (depending on where you live)...

Yeah, I'm in agreement. After reading this forum, I found a ton of other ways to make money. (It was just so tempting)

Unfortunately going that direct is too risky for you as you are not the owner of the emails but what about creating some flyers that provide a 'valuable' information source and asking your boss directly if they can be left at the counter ?

If your gut is not confortable with the idea and you have a dilemma, there must be a reason. So, I guess, you already know what to do.

Try to harvest this emails by yourself... I know its tempting when you have them available on your finger tips ^^ but few extra bucks in this conditions are not the solution ^^

i don't think it is unethical as you will not scam them. you will just send affilite link to them and not forcing them to buy! even if they buy that product they will get something,
try to attach some good product not a BS and also do not do anything with that email list that harm your company directly or indirectly.

But pepsi is good too. :[

Anyway yeah thats a completely bad idea. If they somehow traced it back to you they could possibly sue you plus fire you. Fun times.

thanks everyone. i'm e-whoring on facebook/personal website instead.

If your conscious tells you its wrong, it probably is. Good rule of thumb to follow. Don't do it.

Don't do it. Even if you get away with it, you will always be looking behind your back which is no way to live.

One way to help you come to a decision that you won't second-guess, is to consider how much money you have to make, vs. what kind of money you could lose (i.e. the "day job").

I'm not asking about the second, but am interested in the first.

How much money could you possibly make by doing this?
