I love testing new methods so the other day I set up this page: http://www.thelocalforum.co.uk/download236152/ (Its a live link because the domain is mine). I know, the page looks amazing! I then went around searching for "where can I download" on various question and answer sites and pretty much just plugged my link saying: "You can download it here, enjoy!". So people clicked on the link, thought that they needed a Yahoo toolbar to access that page, so they went ahead and downloaded it. I then got my precious $1.

Believe it or not it actually worked.

What I need to do now is to actually design a better looking landing page with realistic looking warnings etc. and automate the whole process. I don't have time to go around plugging each link manually.

Where do you think I can find a lot of people desperate for something? For example some sort of celebrity fan club where I can go and say: "OMG I have just found her naked pictures here!" or even run a CPC campaign along the lines.

I love your idea, mighty.

Try these celebs forums:

Yeah definately do what Genjutsu said - it will look much better.

Also you are on to something that I did a while back. It made me a killing and it looks like you may do the same.

how do you get paid for someone to install the yahoo toolbar

abansb

I don't, I send traffic to my landing page.

Riyonuk

The offer is on CJ and you get paid every time someone installs Yahoo toolbar (US traffic only). Not only its a better deal compared to other PPI, people also tend to trust Yahoo.

mightybh you are a legend mate. Simple yet effective. I wasn't even aware yahoo had this, I have already made a massive $1 but I can see the potential with this if you can drive hordes of traffic to your page.

I think PPC is the only way forward if you don't feel like working your ass off every day. I shall be experimenting with this soon.

Have you seen that bar that comes down at the top of the page on certain vb forums telling you that you are not a member and why not register to join the forums. Looks a bit like the FF bar that comes down and alerts you about stuff. If you where to copy that and make is look very professional then you could convert more people. How many people do you get that don't install the yahoobar.

PS I will try and post a ss of it

This is what I was thinking. Start with a little loading bar "scan" animation and end with the bar at the top you have mentioned as well as possibly a dimmer to dim the rest of the page as if there is something there.

ss would save me time looking for it, I think you can just use the one from vbulletin.org Thanks!

-EDIT-

Info bar code. Obviously you can skip the browser checking.

Nice one

But you should make a new landing page and test it against - your now - control landing page (current one)

Just cause you think you should might not actually be true. Let the market decide.

That said, great idea, well done

oscar....

You know its the simplest ideas that always amaze me. Nicely done. This idea would work well with SEC or one of the other cloaking systems. I have used a similar method quite some time ago, but it looked like the page was displaying a database error and there was the option to download the password file, this was on a porn page - the install was not as innocuous but the method of delivery was similar.

good idea mighty! got my miniscule noob brain whirring.

what happens once they have installed the toolbar? nothing im guessing :)

And here you go here is your loader :-)

http://www.ajaxload.info/

There you go you have every thing off to bed lets see if you can build a new landing page by the time I get up, Let me know if you want some dimmer code I will find you an example in the morning
