Hi Guys
How would you go about starting a live streaming website ? For any sport out there ? Do i have to get a video platform ? or can i do it some other way ? Would it be best for me to get it on my tv at home and then link to my pc and then to my website ? Any tips would be great

Re: How to start a live streaming website ?
The hardest part is finding a good hosting. It depends if the vidz you offer are all legal - if not it might mean offshore hosting.
Otherwise you need hosting that allows sufficiently fast connection and loads of bandwidth.
After you solved the hosting best use wordpress with a premium theme for video hosting.

Im not looking to host videos, im looking to stream live sports. For example i got the the boxing on saturday night for free on my satellite. I have been doing research online and it seems i can transfer my tv picture to my computer. Whats the best option then to get it live onto a website ? Re: How to start a live streaming website ?
I think thats illegal watch out with it. Even tho its a free channel they can get pissed if you stream it on the net without their permission. Go for offshore hosting.

Yea thats what i seem to be getting on the net aswell that its illegal, how come sites like sopcast, justin.tv etc get away with it ? There quality is piss poor tho lol
I take it you mean A.dobe F.lash M.edia S.erver boussena ? Have you used this urself ? Is there anyone on here that connects there tv to there computer and shows live streams ? I red about a guy doing that for the boxing the other night but he didnt respond in his thread in the bh lounge.

Re: How to start a live streaming website ?
I do it at the moment.
Best way is to connect your TV up to a media player and stream it through ustream. Then embed this on your page. That way you don't need offshore hosting as you are merely embedding a 3rd party stream.
Make sure you have a DMCA note up saying I don't host videos blah blah.
Hosting the streams on your site without a third party is lots of bandwidth, lots of hassle and legal issues to avoid.
Drop me a PM if you need a hand!

Linking to warez is still illegal. And still your transferring it from your own TV thats the part you should be careful with.

Re: How to start a live streaming website ?
I think you will need to host it on your site to do that. Or else check javascript. Get the position of your embedded iframe, and using javascript show a logo on the position that suites you.

Re: How to start a live streaming website ?
Yes, but if you add that these are user-submitted links you are okay. They should send you a DMCA first before taking action anyway, in which case you change your link.
Ustream are okay - they sometimes ban streams, but that's alright. It's not economical for Sky etc to chase you, just be careful, use proxies and have a good internet connection.
It's by no means a safe market to enter, but can be extremely lucrative if you know what you're doing.

Just make sure your ISP can't see what you are doing.
Can anyone suggest a good offshore hosting for this?

Re: How to start a live streaming website ?
Possible. I've yet to have a problem and I only stream when big games are on (fight last weekend was excellent) so you should be able to stay under the radar

Re: How to start a live streaming website ?
Cool this is quite an interesting idea, do you get a lot of traffic from the streams and are you using a gateway to monetize them ?

Re: How to start a live streaming website ?
I've struggled to find a good offshore - mainly because you need an excellent dedicated server, not shared or anything like that. I had 70k UV's in about half an hour with the fight last weekend, so you need something that can handle a lot of traffic.
If anyone has any recommendations I'd love to hear them

I get between 20-70k UV's for a decent Premiership match or the boxing. Only monetized with Adsense at the moment. I get a few links from big forums and they don't allow sites with gateways. So it's either - 50k UV's with adsense, or 2k with a gateway and struggle to get traffic. Yet to decide which is best.

Re: How to start a live streaming website ?
Nice I wanna look into this. But I might just iframe other sites as transferring all that bandwith is a bit too much for me.

Re: How to start a live streaming website ?
I embed streams for ustream, so doesn't use much bandwidth at all (theirs instead). You just need the RAM/CPU power to handle all the traffic at once.
Hit me up with a PM if you need a hand or any tips - I'd happily chat on IM/Skype if you like.

Re: How to start a live streaming website ?
I'm interested in this as well. Anyone have any hosting companies that provide a lot of bandwidth, I plan to do live streaming with original content so I'm not worried with copyrights

Re: How to start a live streaming website ?
If it's legal - I'd recommend theplanet.com - that's where Hostgator get their servers from.
You will need A LOT of bandwidth though!

Re: How to start a live streaming website ?
Don't do it yourself... that's just silly... with like thousands of people streaming everything that's going on already, it just doesn't make any sense for you to put any more risk on yourself than you should....
Simply find reliable sources that stream live content and embed/iframe/link to it... obviously monetize prior to directing the user to their desired content

It's actually quite easy if you have some common sense... instead of trying to outrank millions of sites for "live streaming"... ranking for "team a vs team b live / streaming / highlights" is quite simple

Re: How to start a live streaming website ?
hmmm, actually i know a company that offer 24/7 streaming via FMS server, windows media server, shoutcast, and icecast.
Depend very much on how you do it with then. They have 24/7 tech support, they help people to stream, and they don't care about the material that you streaming as long as you are not reported by someone.
IF you are smart you can do it very easy.
Recommended a flash server, where you can protect your stream if you know flash and allow people to look on your stream only from a certain website.
On windows media hosting you can select an username and a password for the stream, and each one they want to look at stream they must enter that username and password. (all users they login with same username and password, if you want to add for each user to have it different you will need a windows media streaming dedicated server)
Icecast very nice feature that allow you to add via an admin user and password for each user..... in that way you control who is looking on your stream, you can start a PPV site very easy.....if you want to know the name of a company pm and i will recommend you a company.

Re: How to start a live streaming website ?
I was doing this about 3 and a half years ago. We used to stream small low quality events for free in fully. And around 10-15 minutes from the BIG events then cut the transmission because of "technical dificulties" and make them join through our own merchant to watch it in high resolution.
At those times FMS wasn't quite the norm (at least for us lol), we had a windows media server running on a 1gbps port and two broadcasting pcs with kickass hardware and hq tv cards. We also used a dedicated link to re-broadcast the signal to our server. Yes, it was expensive, but rewarding as well.
On good days, we used to hit up to 100 joins a day on those big games.
Then ustream.tv, mogulus.com and all those sites came up and made us lose our business. Even thou we had a near HD quality for the time (around 750kbps constant bitrate) people preferred to watch the games in shitty cheap flash. That killed our business. They weren't transmissions from USA or EU anyway, i would be careful to go with your own setup in that case.
Hope this helps

Sure. That brought in around £250 ($400) in about an hour purely through adsense. My server couldnt handle the traffic so crashed after the second round. Not bad for an hour or two work. Although I suspect with a gateway I could make 10x more if I could get the same amount of traffic.
Bear in mind you will only make that much with big games/events, so I currently I do around 8 hours a week for about $800 depending what's going on.
All direct traffic too - no point SE optimizing as people want a link NOW when there is a live game - they go to forums, not google.
It's easy money if you can stay under the radar and provide quality content.
I'd love suggestions for other ways to monetize. Only conditions of my links are: no gateways and no gambling affiliates. Get around 5c per click at the moment so you can imagine how many clicks I'm getting for my income

I think you can check out this website called freedocast or something like that. I think it lets you feed stuff off of your comp to the net.
