Typosquatting is a very old trick, probably the first form of blackhatting when it comes to making money online.

It depends on the website; whether it gets a lot of type in traffic or not and whether your misspelling is a common one.
For example if google.com was a product domain and I had googel.com and you had guugle.com, I probably would get more users hit my typo compared to yours.

Typosquatting is a great idea, however it is illegal in my state. A few of my businesses have been a victim of it. In one case, the States Attorney sued the offender. Major fines and alot of risk...not worth it.
