Re: The Niche Guide - Intro & Part 1 (Finding A Niche)
Great tutorial. If I may, I'd like to share an idea that came to my mind about finding a niche. Long story short: I receive a lot of spam comments on my personal blog, and, instead of blindly "destroying" it, I use it as a source of inspiration for more niche websites.

Re: The Niche Guide - Intro & Part 1 (Finding A Niche)
A twist on the above strategy is to simply:
a) find what's already selling well
b) see if you have a viable chance of out-ranking the competition via SEO
c) use greyhat and blackhat methods to out-rank them

Re: The Niche Guide - Intro & Part 1 (Finding A Niche)
Thanks for the great guide. I'm tossing up between a few niches but to be honest I don't think I've researched them enough to assess their true profitability (ie. I've been a biased and chosen them as they are of interest to myself). Hopefully this guide will set me on the right path.
Cheers

Re: The Niche Guide - Intro & Part 1 (Finding A Niche)
Question hopefully someone can answer though I appreciate this is an old thread...
Once you have an idea of which niche you want to target, it’s time to determine its profitability. For this, you would have to use the tools found at:
freekeywords
digital point
Simply type in the idea you have in mind, and press the submit button. You will then be presented with a list of keywords and key phrases that are related to the subject you have entered. Each keyword or key phrase would have an indication of the number of searches that they have gathered from search engine users. The number of searches made for a particular keyword or key phrase is a good barometer of the demand. You’d want at least 5,000 searches for your main keyword.
The first tool charges you to use and the second one is no longer online and advises to use google adwords keyword tool which I'm doing. I'm sticking a few keywords for ideas I have and a few of them have came back with low competition but with high to massive search results. Does this mean that this is possibly a good niche to exploit or is it not as simple as that? Or maybe it simply means not many people are using those specific keywords in google adword ads and there can still be many people out there promoting that niche?
Can anyone clarify basically whether low competition + high search results = a good niche to be promoting.

Re: The Niche Guide - Intro & Part 1 (Finding A Niche)
The profitability of a niche term (without the above tools) can be determined by the Google keyword tool alone, by looking for keywords with sufficient exact monthly search volume, and the competition for the keyword among people conducting adsense campaigns. If the keyword has medium or high Adwords competition, good search volume, and low or manageable SEO competition (few competitors with decently SEOed sites using the term), it's a good keyword.
Other considerations affecting evaluating a buying keyword relate to the method of monetization (if using Adsense, choosing keywords with a CPC or $1-2 or more is advised), or the context of the search effort (is the searcher just looking for information, or to help reach a buying decision?). E.g., if it's a "product X review" keyword being searched for, the general IM consensus is that's a buying keyword, and could best be exploited by creating a review article or site to drive SE traffic to your product's landing page. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply but you lost me at this part unfortunately. Why is it better for a keyword to have medium or high competition, doesn't that mean loads of people are already targeting that keyword?
I found a few keywords that had low competition and millions of searches, I thought that was a good thing. No?
How do I find out the costs of CPC per keyword? Also how do I know whether the competitors have good SEO on their site?
Excuse my ignorance I'm not new to making money online but totally new to internet marketing and related things.

Re: The Niche Guide - Intro & Part 1 (Finding A Niche)
I thought I had carefully distinguished Adsense competition from SEO competition, but have added a word to the sense to make it clearer. The universe of people running Adwords campaigns is largely different from the population using SEO to promote the site. And most instances of the keyword on the web is NOT properly SEOed. The medium or high PPC competition assures the site you set up for Adsense will have plenty of ads show up related to the keyword. The CPC of the keyword can be found through use of the Adwords keywords tool (just join Adwords for free, the CPC info will show up for any word you search).

I guess I just don't understand this whole world yet as I'm totally lost reading this. Thanks for trying to explain.
