They are definitely worth it. If your site plan is not long term -Go for them!

Yes sometimes its good to make sure your links are a mixture of both Do-Follow and No-Follow.

Also just because a blog is .EDU doesn't make it a better blog to get links from.
There are other .COM blogs that are as good and it takes the same amount of work to get links from them.

I believe that blog comments do more harm than good if they aren't moderated. Just think for a second, do you want that your link to be surrounded by all sorts of spammy links and comments from viagra websites, etc?

i have PR 5 .edu comment links but all are nofollow

, Once i get PR 3 .gov link which is ******** but they remove links very fast.
