Hi Guys

We often talk about inbound links from high PR sites, but what about outbound links to high PR sites?

From what I could understand when I read this thread is that outbound links can affect the way google scores content on your site?

So not only are relevant internal links important, but outbound links to high PR sites that are relevant are important too?

I've often heard the theory that linking out something on YouTube can give you a slight boost, since Google owns YouTube...others have told me that linking out to Wikipedia makes your site look more "credible" in the eyes of the search engines. I have not been able to prove either theory.

I can't quantify the matter, but I've got several new sites, all PR 0, all with google reporting 0 inbound links, running 5-10 pages, essentially no new content, with 100K and up key words, and all are on the first page of the bing, google, and yahoo search returns.

The only two things I can think of that put me on page 1 are:
1) my html code is absolutely perfect, run through validating software until there are 0 errors and 0 warnings;
2) I link to 2-4 high PR sites with outbound links.

I think it's important to have outbound do follow links. This has been discussed many times before but how natural is it for any Website to have only inbound links? If I wanted to check for natural looking sites it's link profile would be the first place I'd look. Normal people (non IM marketing) link out to useful content all the time so should we (my opinion refer to my sig)

Yea I linked out to google and some other relevent high PR sites on a few different pages and bumped up a fair few places within a week. Seeing as I havn't done any other SEO work in a while I can only assume it was the outbound links that did it.

The anchor text of outbound links has also been a considerable ranking factor in the past so it's logical to assume it's still a factor to some degree. If you're going to link to anyone, it should be an authority site, not your competition.

Yes, that's a good idea. In a 'normal' website, there's always outbound links on it. Website that have only inbound links is 'strange' .. I think google already think about this too..

All my best performing sites have outbound links to relevant authority pages. 2 things though, put them in the bottom third of your content, and do not use the exact anchor text you are trying to rank for yourself.
