Have you just seen a awesome JV thread where you can get $1000 per month, every month for life for only $50 upfront payment?

Before you snap up that awesome deal why not do a few simple checks before running off to your paypal account?

This thread is just to show you how to do a little bit of homework on someone who has started a golden thread!

Step one

Look at the persons profile and ask yourself a few things like:

1: How long has the person been a member (would you give money someone you just met if it was face2face?)

2: How many posts? (Are the posts all touting for business or just being social/helping?)

3: How many threads have they started? (yet again are they helping others or just touting for business?)

4: Where do they post? (Are they only posting in the BST/Freelancer?)

5: Have you checked the Itrader?(Don't always be put off by the odd neg itrader as some people are just dicks and leave them for no reason. Look at what they put in retaliation, decent businessmen don't normally bother about doing petty neg reps in return)

6: Look at the first 50 odd posts of a members profile, if they are all one word answers or "thanks for the post" then you know that member has just spent ten minutes post bumping to be able to post in the BST threads!

Basically is the member a decent member of the community by helping others, asking questions and just being normal?

Step Two

1: What colour is the persons name? Yellow is average member, Blue is a JRVip, Pink is a donor and white is ExecVip - Mods are Red and Green?

Ill be honest I only really do business with people who have coloured names as I find they tend to be better to do with business with and they have paid good money to have that "right" (some have earned that colour with even more to loose)!

If you get offended by this....Sorry but that's my view but I will add I have done business with a couple of "non colours" so I wont tarn all with the same brush at all but do your checks!

2: Has the person got any friends? (why not?)

Step Three

1: The Shitlist - Check it out as it could save you a lot of money, I wont go into the rules of the shitlist but check them here

2: Back to checking out the users threads, does he have a BST thread? (if so then your normally pretty safe)

So people take a few minutes longer when parting with your money and it can save you a lot of time in the long run!!

I will update/tidyup this post later on if I can as I have just rushed this after reading a couple of the shitlist threads! Believe it or not, I'm one of the few people who really do like using BHW as a privilege and believe it's not a right! I hate seeing people get scammed as it makes us good people look like terds!

Step 4: Treat any money that you hand out the same as if you were giving it to someone on the street. Burning it. That way, if you DON'T get scammed, if you do actually get a return, it'll be a pleasant surprise. Now, I'm not a pessimist by nature (ok I am perhaps somewhat of a realist) - there's a practical application to this: IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO LOSE THE MONEY YOU ARE PUTTING OUT, DON'T PUT IT OUT. And that little test will help you know if you can afford this risk.

Great post wannabie. It's all really just some good common sense, but a lot of people don't really check up enough before jumping into some deals.

The proper term is "due diligence" and if you do you're research it can dramatically reduce the risk. Even if all those checks look good it's still possible for things to go wrong, but the odds are much more favorable that you'll enter into a good deal.

Thanks for taking the time to post it, and thanks to BigBuddy for making it a sticky. Hopefully it can help a few people avoid problems before they happen.

Members about to spend money on any newTGTBT(Too Good To Be True) type thread, just think about these measures >>>

1. Will this "trader" compel me into opening a ShitList thread later?
2. Does this deal seem to be 'too good to be true'?
3. Are there any other members showing me any red signals?
4. Are there any other parallel safer threads on our BST section?
5. Can I wait for another day before getting into this deal?
6. Can I do some more research into this 'trader' and find out if it is really safe to deal with him/her?

If I sense something is wrong (read: a possible scam waiting to happen) should I try to raise a signal for others, and / or use the REPORT button so that the mods can look into the thread with more scrutiny?

(Of course think about how busy our mods already are, but please do not hesitate to use the REPORT button if you are almost sure that there could be a scam brewing...)

when in doubt, just assume people will do whatever's most profitable for them. would they make more money by just running away with your initial funds, or would it be more beneficial to them to continue doing business with you?

lets say you pay $20 for a small job with a very high possibility of doing lots of future business with them if the initial results are good. in this case they have every reason to keep up their end of the deal. we all like consistent income streams after all.

on the other hand, if you pay someone $1000 for a one time job, and they have no reason to ever talk to you again after that, then it's pretty much completely up to them whether they want to honor the deal or scam the shit out of you. kinda like a coin flip really.

Gave you rep + thanks for this thread. It is useful for new members or old ones but naive. I made a similar thread a while ago and some guys told me "why do I care?" Well I do care because we are a community and at any given point in time we can do business together so even warnings or sharing experience is considered sharing and helping. Its a good thing that BigBuddy made it a sticky thread so that its here for all to see. So thanks guys

Very true. I also treat all affiliate companies the same way. As long as you are making them money, they have a reason to pay you, but, if you ever let your unpaid balance get too large, you always run the risk of them closing your account, not paying you and moving on to the next sucker.

Quite often people will lie in their posts and replies. As long as thay 100% honest with you then you can make your informed decision. (but this is B.H. don't expect great ethics))

Best way to think is 95% are out to scam your money off. you. So work out the top 5%. Everyone else.....**^* off!

Bear in mind there are no enforaceable contracts with these JV's (non i hav eever come across) and they are in different countriies, probably using false names, addresses etc...IF they decide to simply run away with your money there's not a THING you can do about it.

It got so bad on the JV section I gave up over 18 months ago even trying to strike one up.I glance though now and see deal after deal that simply cannot work out!

Use your common sense. You can't get legitiamte whole sale Apppe goods from China..despite what they promise you. In many countries biz is al labout trying to scam...that's normal to them. Lying "that's that you do to make the deal." Is the motto. Be very careful and become vety skeptical.
