Cool Making money online still feels surreal

    Greetings BHW,

I recently began discovering the idea of making money online. Three months ago I knew nothing of it. Now I'm making hundreds a day, with a record high of $840 (recently, I might add). I've been lurking these forums for weeks and decided I finally learned enough to be a healthy contributor to the discussions. I hope to learn a lot from others, as well as offer my own knowledge/experience I've gained thus far. Thanks for having me.

    CPC Enthusiast,
    Gil70

I suppose I could mention I'm a freelance writer as well, with decent credentials in that department. However, freelance writing doesn't pay nearly as well as having a skill set in social media and advertising. I don't expect to involve myself in freelance work/discussions while I'm here.

Edit: I read the ToS. There's a typo under Section 10 in the very last sentence.

ArkmayL7 - Thank you man! You too as well, best of luck

hatterftw1 - Well, it's because I don't keep all the money. I literally stumbled into IM. I have a college friend down towards VA who started buying FB pges and using MyLikes to make money. He offered me a gig to post a few memes a day in order to provide content with the links. From here I started picking up on how to find relevant and good content, and he decided to pay me more to post the links for him as well (which gave me access to his account, but fortunately for him I don't steal people's money). From there I started picking up on how to maximize profit using MyLikes and I became pretty good at it. I get a percentage of what this guy makes. He seeks out and buys pages, I post the links and content to make the money. It's a good partnership and I'm glad to have discovered IM in this way.

I manage 12 pages at the moment, it's a fair amount of work.

I have no advice on where to buy pages, and if I did I'd be hesitant to share it. My partner has his own ways of finding them and paying for them. It's extremely hard to find good pages nowadays, information on how to get them alone is valuable. I can't help you in this department, but best of luck in your search.

I can say that if you want a good page you're probably going to have to give good money. I get messages for purchasing my pages all the time and every page has plenty of competition between buyers. You're going to have to outbid people, and I've heard of people putting down thousands for a page just to land it. I have a networked friend from Canada who'll go to another country just to close a deal on a page. You're better off learning to build them or using places like here to buy them in a community.

So, MyLikes hired you to open profiles on BHw and related forums to promote their crappy site?

SkyrocketSEO - No, when I started learning more about IM I google searched PPC/CPC and came across this forum. I lurked it for weeks and got better at what I do and then decided I should join. I have one profile here and I don't like the MyLikes staff at all, don't make ridiculous claims. However, I'll share a hilarious story regarding their team. If you don't believe me after this that's your choice.

The guy I work with flew out to California two weeks ago for a business-related venture. He decided to visit the MyLikes HQ in San Francisco because he was tired of the bs from when our revenue had been slashed. You know how you get an account manager if you get Gold status for your account? Well it's terrible, they do nothing to help you and give you the vaguest, most delayed responses to all of your questions. We had one that went by the name Christina. When my partner visited their offices he actually met Christina, but not too long after the MyLikes owner kicked him out for not having an appointment. He managed to snag her Skype before he left though (which I find hilarious, it seems if he can't talk to a MyLikes representative he'll just bang their secretary). Anyway, she's offered to help us and to get into a Skype call to talk to us about creating content that appeals to our audience(s) but he and I both decided there's nothing she could really do that we haven't already learned at this point. My partner still has her on Skype though.

I don't like MyLikes because they go out of their way to make sure publishers can't communicate. They made a blog post a few weeks back regarding a delay in payment but when they saw publishers were voicing their concerns and talking amongst each other they deleted the post and wrote up an announcement that shows up on the site instead. Cowards.

iamNOBODY - For sure! What do you for internet marketing? I'm hoping to learn more about IM besides PPC and start learning about landing pages, building cheap websites and getting into the whole adsense gig as well. Good luck in your endeavors, hope you find success

SO, wait, you didn't have a clue about IM, you then started some random posts on FB, after that your partner decided to (randomly) visit MyLikes (I mean, we all do that), and then he almost banged a random girl there before CEO of Mylikes went Don Draper on him?

SkyrocketSEO - You're really good at confusing the chronology of what I said. I didn't just randomly start making Facebook posts, it's been a journey. If you're going to question my credibility in learning IM quickly I'll be very blunt about my journey.

In late April a college acquaintance of mine said "hey, I have an offer. I'll give you 50 a week to post 12 memes a day on these 6 pages." I said yes. From there I started posting memes, using Facebook Insights to learn about my demographic and post relevant memes to them. When I got good at that I asked him about the links he was posting. I saw they were from likesDOTcom but I didn't know how he was monetizing from them. He explained to me they were from MyLikes, but he couldn't let me work the links because it gave direct access to the revenue. Over time we acquired more pages and he gave in and paid me more to post memes and post links.

I started posting links and looking at the bit ly analytics. I researched which times were busiest on Facebook and checked the links to check for validity. I wondered why HootSuite wouldn't give us as much reach as a link posted directly to Facebook and learned that third-party API's get penalized. At this point I started creating "sets" of links, archiving the links I used everyday in a document and putting together sets I'd reuse in the future. I used Google Drive for this. Mid May I had begun to archive all the memes I posted everyday as well using Google Drive. I have a folder full of 20-24 memes for every single day since May and it's constantly growing. I became accustomed to which kind of links my demographic was receptive to. During this time my partner also began to land more pages and paid me more for handling more work. We even lost a major page along the way (apparently Antoine Dodson didn't like us sporting his name on our page). At some point I realized how screwed we were getting with our revenue and I began opening new accounts to see the effect of account hopping. We started two more accounts, one we reported to our account manager and one we didn't. After using both we noticed the one we reported was screwed just our original gold one but the other one wasn't. I started creating sets for other accounts, making more, and learning to effectively account hop.

All this and more I learned within the timespan of 2-3 months. I'm still learning as it is, but I have the time to dedicate. I'm not currently enrolled in school or employment so I'm home often and can put the work in to learn the ins and outs of this job. The story I told you happened within the past two weeks and is true. My partner happened to be going to California and thought it'd be interesting to visit their HQ. He grabbed Christina's Skype before the boss came around to kick him out, but he had a few minutes to talk to her before then. Mostly small talk/flirting, and she kept in touch with him. I don't even see how you could think I said my partner banged a girl at the MyLikes HQ, I was implying that they kept in touch while he was in California and could easily meet up outside of the HQ. I'll admit it was random of him to visit though, he threw out the idea while he was there jokingly and decided to act upon it. I don't know what he was expecting to do but he did manage to visit.

I don't really know what else to tell you. I'm making money online, I don't see why that's hard to believe.

Thanks QB, same to you! I can't say it's easy. It's my birthday today and I'm still working on the computer scheduling PPC links like no tomorrow haha. Time is money I guess! Good luck in your endeavors.
