First FB Campaign
I just ran through my very first facebook campaign and although it wasn't profitable I was happy with a couple of things. I was running a poll style ad that asked the users for their opinion, the landing page had a small poll on it with the options linked to a cpa offer. First of all, the bad: I only made $1.60, but the campaign had a limit of $10 so it was bad percentage wise but I can live without an extra $10 and I got my feet wet, which was important. I ran with cpm just because I was pretty confident that my ad would get some good clicks and because, unlike some experts here (facebookdude, indianbill, bornformoney just to name a few) I don't know how to get those extremely low .05 clicks so I probably would've ended up paying like .30 a click or something so cpm worked out well for me. Anyway, here are the stats, post any questions below, comments are appreciated (especially if they help
)
Targeting: 18 and older, female
Suggested cpm: 0.47-0.65
Actual cpm: 0.24
CTR: 0.109%
Clicks: 71
Conversions: 1
Expenses: $10.00
Revenue: $1.60
Profit: -$8.40
What do you guys think?

i will keep an eye on this thread and ur results since i m gonna start this soon..
one question y did u try for cpm.. whats the point in showing the same users the same ad again and again....try one of ur campaign with cpc and plz post results
there was a very intrsting thread where a guy did a whole case study based on facebookdude's method..i just skimmed thru that..maybe u can try reading that in case u havent..
waiting for ur other experiments..its nice for a newbie to get to know how a newbie is dealing with a new method. bokmarked

Re: First FB Campaign
Pretty keen to see what other results you come up with in the future so i'll keep and eye on this thread. Although you haven't made a profit from the campaign, from what I can see you should be happy with getting some form of a result from your first attempt.
As dabeast said, I would be interested in seeing you compare the cpm with cpc and see what results you get.
I've experimented with a few ads on facebook, and set up my first major campaign about 3 weeks ago which is still getting me a .363 CTR and .05 - .06 cents clicks. This is pretty targeted though, as I am aiming the campaign at males 35 - 50, both in Australia and the UK.
I've noticed you said you were targeting Females 18 and older. Have you attempted splitting this campaign into a series of ads, and targeting age groups of 5 years. For example:
Ad 1: 18 - 25
Ad 2: 25 - 30
Ad 3: 30 - 35
Ad 4: 35 - 40 etc
Use the same ad format by clicking the "Create a similar advert" link, then just change the age group that you're targeting for each. That way you can monitor which age group is more responsive and possibly try tweak that "winning" ad further (Different images, different text, different landing page).
Anyway, that's my two cents, as you can see i'm new around here too but i've seen pretty decent success through Facebook Ads in my few short weeks using it.

I just did cpm because like I said I was pretty confident in my ad and didn't think that I would be able to get cheap cpc clicks. Yea, I read through that thread and actually drew a few ideas from there. I'll definitely post back with further results.

See I knew this thread would be useful; I hadn't thought of that. And since both you guys mentioned it, I guess I will opt for cpc next time and see how I do. I think to do that I'll either have to be extremely generic with targeting or target another country. I'll post results back soon with your age targeting method, thanks.

Re: First FB Campaign
yeah u must have read i guess since u r doing this that fb offers suggested cpc way higher..soemone suggested it to try going with 30-40 percent of the suggested bid and increase cent one by one till the time it accepts the bid..maybe try doing that and post results...or wait for other experienced guyz who have actually done fb ppc to answer ratehr than listening to me who hasnt doen anything as far as fb ppc is concerned

Being that this thread needs a bump anyway. I'm about to start another FB campaign keeping everything the same except changing to cpc and tweaking the age demographics that andiblah mentioned. I'll be posting results daily.

Re: First FB Campaign
I would of started low at 25% of recommended CPM, in your case 0.12 CPM and added 0.01 every 6 to 12 hours till i was getting decent clicks.
Always try and start low, because I've started high in the past at the 50% of recommended CPM or CPC and found when I started lowering the bid, i could lower the CPM or CPC much lower and still get the same amount of clicks for cheaper.
So by starting high i had eaten through most of my allocated budget, before i could get the optimum CPM or CPC price for the ad i was running. If i had of done it the other way round, it would of saved me some cash.

Re: First FB Campaign
Thought I would drop by since my name has been mentioned a couple times
Unlike some other guys I'm a fan of paying CPC. CPM can be unpredictable as hell and depending on the niche, you CAN get 0.05 CPC. Facebook always gives you stupidly high suggested bids. Start at $0.10, wait an hour. If you get no impressions keep increasing till you do.
I'm afraid I can't say much more than that. I'm thinking of releasing a Facebook PPC product with some of my scripts in it but I'm not sure yet.
Anyway best of luck

That's odd, are you using cpm or cpc model? They usually list the reasons in the email and then you can just resolve whatever they're asking. Usually, making some small tweaks will help.

Re: First FB Campaign
Update: Copied my exact same ad using a cpc model. Currently, I have it at 0.05. I'll check every couple hours or so and try to find the 'magic spot' where Facebook will give me some impressions. Only doing this up to a capped number, though I'm yet to decide where to place the cap.
"I'm CEO, bitch!"

Re: First FB Campaign
Update: Up to 0.17 cpc and still no impressions. I'm capping the campaign at 0.20 and even that's a big risk considering I'm working with a 1.30 email submit. My landing page conversion would be have to be around 15% to break even. I hope that once I get impressions I can lower the cpc and keep'em coming in.

Re: First FB Campaign
Update: I'm at the 0.20 cpc now. Still no clicks but I have a reach of 7 so I'm getting some impressions. Now, I just have to wait for the clicks.
In the meantime, I may tweak my landing page for better conversions. Any suggestions?

Re: First FB Campaign
Update: The 0.20 cpc seems to be the magic spot. I've gotten 13 clicks since I put the price at 0.20. No conversions, meaning my landing page needs work. I might try tweaking the page and then sending more traffic that way.

Re: First FB Campaign
Update: So I actually did end up getting quite a few clicks at the 0.20 when the suggested was around 0.88 or something like that. CRAZY thing is while I was writing this post I checked Facebook and found that the suggested cpc had dropped to 0.52 so I dramatically dropped my bid to 0.10. Now let's see if the clicks keep rolling in. After my campaign ends I'd be willing to share my ad copy and landing page if you guys are interested.

so you think you'll make more money than you're spending? that's my main concern about trying this myself, although i'm probably going to use a voucher the first time.

With this campaign I honestly don't know. That's obviously the goal but everything has to be in order for a good campaign: bidding price, landing page, good converting offer, etc. Right now I have a decent bidding price and high converting offer but I know that my landing page sucks. Unfortunately, I'm not very good at visual elements. But we'll see. My landing page focuses more on interaction so hopefully that'll get me some conversions. Voucher is definitely the way to go for the first campaign. And honestly, I wouldn't use an email/zip submit. I'd try something safer like actual sales, which have a higher payout.

Re: First FB Campaign
Update: I stopped the campaign while at about 0.12 cpc because although I was getting more clicks, I wasn't converting well. So, that campaign was both a success and a failure. I found a good spot for getting pretty cheap clicks, I just couldn't make them convert with my landing page. But that's fine, back to the drawing board. Anyway, since my campaign is over I'll reveal what I was doing. I set up a poll on my blog about whether or not Casey Anthony was innocent. When users voted they were redirected to my cpa offer. Here's the ad image

Yeah I may try again with a different offer and landing page.
Stats:
Clicks: 94
CTR: 0.142%
Conversions: 1
Final CPC: 0.12
Spent: $12.29
This is coupled along with the stats listed above, so this is the campaign's total.

Re: First FB Campaign
my first run i think i went something like 0.50$ per click on a 1.20$ offer. i ran it at night and fell asleep. woke up to my first 4.80$. i was happy as hell, but then when i checked my fb, i spent like 43$ LOL. luckily i used a 50$ voucher, but it feels like i couldve used it better. i should have put a daily limit. now im reluctant to put some real money in. lol.
but thanks i learned a few new tips in here.

Sweet. If it's not valid then I'm sure you can buy one for a pretty cheap price. Landing page is definitely KEY. It's how you'll make your cash so work hard on it. Hopefully you can get your campaign optimized before you burn through that voucher
Good luck!

Re: First FB Campaign
Of course PPC is risky! But it seems that you don't how to really track your results. You should split test different types of campaigns and at the end of the day you MUST be able to identify what kind of campaign has given you results, so you can cut those who are failing and improve those who gave you some results.
