    Default negative side of ppc

Pay per click can be very expensive, especially if you're bidding for highly competitive keywords. PPC sure has its positives, but you gotta keep in mind a few drawbacks:

-The more people use the system, the more it will cost to achieve the top position

-It's easier for a competitor with deeper pockets to outbid you

-You can burn through your advertising budget very quickly if you're not careful, do a lot of research to avoid this!

-Pay per click has been threatened by the fear of click frauds

PPC it's risky and require a lot of analisis, but you can get a huge ROI if you know what you're doing and with a bit of luck,of course.

I've had mixed results with PPC. Advertising on the search network may get you the most targeted traffic but it can also cost a fortune. What works best for me is the display network. Create banners in all sizes that the display network supports. I find making them look shitty actually helps the CTR. Submit them and wait for google to approve them. This usually takes a while... and google doesn't work on weekends it seems. I let google take care of the spots it posts my ads to at first but I keep a close eye on it daily. If I see a site that isn't relative and is getting lots of clicks I then "exclude" it. If I see a site that is getting lots of clicks that is relevant then I add it to my managed places list. You'll get way cheaper clicks this way. I usually pay about 15 cents per click... sometimes less.

PPC isn't a business like a blog, you gotta read read read and understand it completely, and then use a small amount ($100) to test it, and then keep doing it and doing it, later you will learn it completely and you can use real money and not coupons.

If you're not brand bidding then you're not using your time effectively!

i have a client that pays about 10k worth of PPC and im trying to get him into just doing backlink building instead.... its kind of ridiculous in how much he is paying for something that isnt even bringing in that much business as it seems. this is for someone in the finance arena. And im sure its pretty cut throat in competing for top placement in some financial keywords. any suggestions?

can anyone recommend a good pay per click tutorial or ebook?

Reading thru this forum, I found this "per per click formula 2.0" discussed but it is not available. 3.0 is being launched in july. I bet it will be expensive though.

    Any suggestions?

First of all I wouldn't recommend steering away from PPC - Finance companies spend millions a month on Google and it definitely works.

Is your client managing the PPC himself, or doing it through an agency? If it isn't through an agency this is where the problem lies. A lot of people think they can manage PPC fine by themselves but think of it like a car. Sure you might be knowledgeable enough to handle basic service work yourself but at the end of the day the mechanic is going to get the job done a hell of a lot better than you, and fix that leaky conversion funnel

he actually just does it himself. he's not a tech guy at all.. he just follows what other stock websites are doing.. and just lets it run blindly.

you also need to get good at tracking in order to figure out which keywords are working and which aren't. It's easy if you are direct linking to CPA networks, but get's complicated once you start sending traffic to your own pages.

That is a huge mistake to make in PPC, let it run blindly. He's likely throwing money away. PPC is like a woman, you got to constantly look after it.

I like Nable's analogy with the car and he's absolutely right. I've seen this time and time again. People think it's simple, do it, don't achieve good results and blame PPC service as being a scam.
