16GB of RAM is probably a bit excessive 8GB should easily be enough.

Mainly becasue memory is really cheap and you will see the benefit.

8Gb for me fills up really quickly - it means 2 x photoshop documents open and a couple of browsers (firefox/internet explorer video streaming streaming can use up to 1Gb of memory).

Although adding more memory won't speed your computer up - you'll be able to throw a lot more at it before it starts to page and slow down.

you can custom build one that is bad ass for about 700.

Either order all the parts online or if you have a local computer shop you can get all that you need.

SSD for main OS and programs is probably a minimum now.

personally I'm a bigger fan of multiple VPS's / RDP's or a solid dedi with a wide bandwidth pipe - the biggest cost / bottleneck for most IM related tasks is in the bandwidth from my personal standpoint....

We just order one almost to spec with what was mentioned except it was an i5 processor and had 8 GB RAM. Cost, with S&H was $697. Another $100 bucks and you can jump it to an i7 and it would be a dream machine. Have to agree with some others, unless you're running VMS, 8 GB will do you fine. But I would make sure the board can handle 16 if/when you want to update. The machine will last you a decade because you can pull parts out as needed and replace/upgrade.

Almost forgot, pay attention to power supply. 650W minimal. Good luck.
