Remove Jr VIP Time Between PMs

There's a 63 second delay between PMs. I thought I had a lot of PMs to reply to when I wake up but I can't even imagine the amount that some of the big service OPs would get.
Is there any way to take this down to 30 seconds or something for Jr VIP and higher?

I second that!! It is such a pain to reply and half of the time, I forget that I'm replying to PMs because I started doing something else while I wait...

good idea but i doubt it. the PM floodcheck is a global setting that applies to all usergroups except for moderators. changing that behavior would require changing the vbulletin code itself (i dont think a plugin could do it).

That's so wrong? You just change the setting for Jr VIP members to have no limit, just like you can change how many PMs they get etc.

im looking in the admin panel of one of my forums right now and I don't see it. the only thing close in the usergroup manager is Message Throttle Quantity but that changes the amount of messages you can send within the throttle time, it doesn't modify the throttle time itself.

I don't see why it wouldn't be feasible even if some custom coding is required, so many people pay for VIP and Donor status it could easily be outsourced or even coded here since this is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) internet marketing forums on the web.

I asked to decrease this time few months ago but was ignored.

Sellers get pms most of the day and it takes more time to handle these messages with that long interval.

I dunno if you remembered but heavy PM spam was an issue before, having a delay makes it easier to be caught as it would literally take days to PM everyone on the forum with a bot now.

Before a bot could send and then instantly resend doing it quite quickly. Although I think setting it to JR VIP only could be a good way to negate this issue as you mentioned. So, ya, I guess I'm in favor lol. I know when I go on vacation and come back with 30 PMs in my box I'm not cool with the waiting so I just delete them all.

but I get the point, sometimes you just want to respond to 10 PMs and it takes you at least 10minutes waiting..

Exactly. Anyone who offers a service or product on the forum usually gets swamped with PMs. From joint ventures to sales and technical enquiries.

Yes, why not put an hourly limit instead? 20 PMs per hour or something?

it would have to be X per 63 seconds. like i said before, you can't change the time, you can only allow more to be sent within the time but that could work too. you could set it so that jrvip can send like 3 messages within the 63 second period which would work fine.

I keep my box a little full because I'm too lazy to empty it, so usually after 20-30 PMs I can't get anymore

For those talking about spam. the forum allows sending the same pm to 15 persons at once or like 850 members/hour.

I don't think someone will pay 100$ and make xx posts to get jr.vip to send mass pms. We didn't actually get such attack for as long as I was here so pm spam doesn't seem to be an issue.

Its not an issue because there are things like this in place, in early days the forum used to get PM spammed.

Also $100 is not much if it removed the wait time (15 people at once, could be spammed every 2 seconds or thereabouts when automated without delays. That brings the number up to 27,000 an hour).

I actually developed a PM spamming software (now defunct) about two years back and it is extremely profitable, $100 for an account with no limits would easily be recouped even if it was only able to mass pm for 30 minutes before being banned.

Just saying its there for a reason, I'd be fully on board with like a 25 second delay or, as mentioned earlier, no delay when replying to a PM you have received.

How about the search limit too? Sometimes the wrong keywords are used. I'm not sure how that can be abused. If someone really wanted to bot the search, they could just use Google.

And honestly, a bot would be pretty easy to code that has a timer, for sending PMs. Why not implement captcha instead?

Typically its not for abuse, its for server load. Making people wait cuts down on the number of searches that are being queried at any time which could lag up the forum.

Because you usually get reported and banned in a half hour to an hour on a forum this active. Captcha solving is easily added to any bot, but when there's a delay there really is not any getting around that.

Captchas is the worst idea ever. No one wants to fill out 30 more captchas a day than we already have to.

Mass searching could overload the sever and crash BHW. Then you would be back here complaining its down. :S

There may be some Vbulletin plugins that can accommodate this, I will do some research and update this thread

This has already been done, which is why I am looking into the issue more
