This is a good decision. I can't say I've felt a decrease of the quality of the post here, and I do read most of the time - I am a member for a while here and almost all I do is reading, and reading again -, but I did read a lot of comments where some guy complain about something about the method that was presented in the thread...

I hope you guys will be able to keep this forum 'clean', so keep up the good work and I am waiting for your next post about your methods

That's simple - and would be effective.

My suggestion - make it a rule that, if you are posting a link to a download, then the title of the item should be in the title of the post in the form [GET]Y*our S*tupid e*book h*ere

If you are posting multiple items then the title should be descriptive and start [GET]Multiple XXX where XXX might be something like A*dwords S*oftware. This would be important if the title refers particularly to the products contained in the posting. If the title was generic, e.g. just 'ebooks', then disguising it wouldn't have much value.

If you have multiple items in the post then they should all be named by the same convention i.e. T*his w*ould b*e O*K - but Th*is wou*ldn't. All should follow the rule of * after the first letter of every word in the title (even if there's only one letter).

If you do it wrong - you get a warning - do it wrong twice you get booted.

Add to that the code tag on the download and I think you'd be covered. It would frustrate external searches but easily allow people on the forum to search and find what they were looking for.

One thing - it's not going to cover items already posted but perhaps, over time, corrected links would be posted under the right titles to the older threads.

Bear, I think a temp ban of 3 days, then 7 days, then the big goodbye would be better than booting someone. Give them a learning experience first, 2nd offense booting seems a touch draconian to me.

Maybe - but then I'm a bast*rd! Hey, if you've been warned by a mod/admin, then you now know what the rules are so you don't really have an excuse. But maybe a warning, temp(3 day ban) and then boot?

I'm less concerned with the policing of it than trying to come up with something that keeps the value of the download section but keeps the forum free from 'prying eyes'!!

I think there should be a minimum post count limit to be able to post in the request section
and once they have crossed the post limit, a mod should view their posts and then only allow them to create topics in the request section.....
its the only good thing DP has to prevent scammers in their BST section....
i think it should be adapted....
i second this.it should be like 50 posts and 90 days or something like that.

I think we've finally figured out how to prevent the search engines from indexing our downloads sections. So, there should be no further need to scramble titles.

As far as warnings/bans go, that's the way we've always done it. 3 infractions = automatic ban.

I was going to ask about that.... Some folks do take umbrage to BHW being thought a download site, but that is (one might think) an "essential" part of this community. Some members may not have the "skills" others have, but have maybe a tool or ebook to share. And that sharing makes them "feel" better, and why deny them, LOL...

If we can keep the spiders out, that would be awesome!

Along with the original post, this is the best news yet. If indeed you can keep the search engines out of the DL areas (vbulletin mod? or something more direct? just curious) then that completely solves the search problem we've all experienced. I consider myself a professional searcher (hell, it's how I found this lovely place!) and even I have a hard time getting even the advanced search function to produce without feeling like I'm fighting with it.

I'm also glad to know that we can utilise the report post button for the majority of the bonehead maneuvers from some of the noOb crowd. Thanks for that. Thanks to the mods and admins for keeping the place tidy. Thanks to all the members who contribute to our collective knowledge and cashflow.

That's great. It solves the problem of noobs needing to ask for stuff, for people looking for stuff and makes life easy for the people who post information.

Thank you for sorting this - it's a 5 star result.

Now, all that's left is to go through the many pages of downloads and correct each and every title....
