Thank You button... An incentive for reviewing

I was taking a look at the load of crappy ebooks and software I have on my PC and really felt bad about downloading them in the first place. So I have a suggestion...

If someone post a link to download some "use(less)ful" material (be it ebook, video or software), instead of thanking just the poster alone, can we also hit the thanks button for those who post objective reviews? The purpose of the review should be to let everyone downloading know exactly what the ebook contains (not what the salesletter says). That way, we will spare ourselves of downloading junk that will not only eat up our most valuable resource (time) but could also dull our thinking processes

Hitting the thank you button could be an incentive to submitting objective reviews...

Or whatcha think?

Just thinking aloud.. Would that not make a 'thank you' less valuable... Actually many of us (Read that I) have a lust for getting the Thanks from readers... due to which we are in continual search for good and new material for contributing.

If I were to receive a thank for my review post I would rather spend time reviewing the content and not searching for new ones... Moreover one man's garbage can be other man's treasure.. Who knows..

I would say it would be great as long as the posts were meaningful enough and showed that the user actually used it/read it and was giving the objective review. All too often you see the 'wonderful' participants who just blindly accept the product is good and working or ebook is up to par that they will post accordingly. I think anyone that posts a review within hours of getting the materials cannot possibly be giving a helpful review. Perhaps for the ebooks as far as concepts go....

Your thinking aloud is quite audible

... However, I would rather I know upfront that the material is junk so that I don't waste time downloading it. Or even waste disk space while I increase my JUNK information overload.

If you read people's post here, you will find that most of them want to know if the material is good or it is just another waste of time. Posting an OBJECTIVE REVIEW will help in this regard...

PS. Note that I used the words OBJECTIVE REVIEW...

Why are people so obsessed with the thanks button? You'll find out quickly enough if your posts are worth a damn.

Yeah, people are so obsessed with the thanks button. Why? I really don't know. But since that's what they want and since it makes them take action, why not give it to them?

about the thanks button: i think someone with 200 posts and "thanked 50 in 10 posts" is more trustable than someone with 400 posts and 3 thanked. its rather about quality than quantity...

Or is it about perceived quality in this instance?
Since the reason people will attract alot of thanks is because people perceive their post to be of great value.

My point is that someone will collect alot of thanks due to the marketing which has reached blackhatters of the value of a product (ebook, software, book, method) that someone has provided 'insights' on.

So the thanks are representing being first to be seen making this available rather than thanks to posts that are really applicably useful.

Part of what I am saying is that people are going to thank (just as we know they buy) when they get what they want, not what they need.
What does that say about the person being thanked?
Is he playing for thanks? Or are the thanks really always a side-effect of superlative posts and insight?
(I am not knocking anyone with a lot of thanks, just raising a subtle point that is lost in the quality / quantity debate).
