Here is a thought that might reduce all these crap threads asking the same question over and over and over again. I swear sometimes its like a broken record. I don't mind giving back, but I think this would greatly reduce some of the garbage threads on this forum.

For a user ranked as newbie they should have to post X amount of posts and contribute to others threads prior to being able to start there own thread. IMO that is a privilege to be able to ask for users of the community to help them out. I also think this would increase the usage of searches the forum gets. This way all the noobs are searching for what has most likely already been answered.

Idea just dawned on me and thought it would be a good way to reduce all the crap threads that have nothing to do with those sections. Make these guys get involved to earn this privilege.

Sound like a good idea or what? :D

i think thats a good idea i think it should be around 15 posts so that people get a feel of the forum but not so high they have to wait ages to be able to post if they have a query

Good idea. In addition to that, the newbie should be a member of this forum for a certain number of days before getting allowed to start a thread..

To much threads with title how to earn xxx in x days. It's enough.

There should also be a thread/post of how to correctly utilize the search/advanced search function and how to navigate the forum before posting questions that have otherwise been answered.

It would also help if it was required to tag threads. This would increase the ability to find what your looking for. Of course that would mean that it had to be set correctly with the proper key words from the get go.

I agree with both ideas, the minimum posts and the member for more than X days.

All the noobs will end up posting one word replies all over the place similar to "Thanks!" or "I will try this method". Besides, if they are slightly smarter they can post them 15 posts within a few minutes without adding any value to BHW community and yet staying under the radar.

Could also make the posts a minimum amount of characters for the first X amount of posts in the first X amount of days. I think this would help. Just a matter of finding out what each should be.

@mightybh
You do have a point there... but the "member for more than X days" is still a valid limitation in that case.

Would be good to lock them into "training" forums for a while maybe so all the crap threads go in one place not all places ;)

You could maybe even monitor a bit so they are unleashed after they at least know some stuff.

New members should maybe be forced to read posts like the noobie FAQ type posts from ppl like harro. I am far from a guru in regards to a lot of stuff but due to the recession there has been a ton of irritating threads (even more irritating than mine lol).

Just my opinion hope it helps.

:)

Thought the same thing
If you do Post Restriction, it'll increase the spam
If you do Day Restriction, it'll decrease the number of BHW members, because a lot of new guys at Online Money will give it up coz they can't even ask a single question

I disagree even if the overall quality of post by newbies aren't that great.
Starting a thread doesn't mean asking for help. A newbie might submit good tools or whatever. You don't need X posts to post something interesting and in the other side someone with 100 or more posts might post shit.

Just ignore those threads and bump the good ones. I don't want to force myself replying when I have nothing to add, just in order to get X posts and be able to start a thread.

Good idea Botwiz.. I'm with ya again on this one.

If the noobs get out of control with 2 word posts, I'm sure the report button works. HaRRo loves the ban hammer. (especially if that hammer is maneuvered by a robot to smash through some noob's Volkswagen) Actually I can attest to it personally...

Then he ban ban them for posting unwanted threads just as well.

Think about it, mate. Whats easier to track and delete, Useless posts or Useless threads ?
@ report button, Do you want Admin's & Moderator's inbox to get spammed with 'report msgs' ?

Yeah.. This place will be more like DP then..
Guys will start having multiple spare accounts..

What I suggest is.. A guy must have X number of THANKED POSTS before he could start a thread..

I think the minimum posts is a good idea, but it would be far too easy to bypass.

I think something along the lines of having to wait 7 days to start a new thread, or have at least 1 or 2 "Thanks" first would be easier, as it wouldn't be as easy to bypass.

I think that restrictions only deterr contributing newbs from participating, and therefore have voted against it.

.

I agree with the xx number of posts AND xx number of days AND the IMPORTANCE of searching before posting/questions/etc .....

HTH

Agreed. And even if they do do the whole "Thanks! I'll try this" thing
1. They'll be reported
2. It'll at least force them to 'glance' at methods etc..to answer questions that their first post would've been about (how do I make money on CL?)
