Absolutely zero impressions for over a week. Am I doing it wrong?

I've gotten several ads approved recently, placed bids in the middle of the suggested range, chose very specific targeting, (like less than 10k individuals), after several days, I had zero impressions still. I figured perhaps the niche I was in, or the group I was targeting was highly competitive and perhaps my bids were too low to compete with folks that had a higher budget, even though I was constantly increasing my bid every few hours by a few cents.

So I changed to a completely different niche, completely different target demographic. Still 4-5 days later, not a single impression. Again, I bid competitively, tried increasing a few cents every couple hours, and nothing. What the hell am I doing wrong?
