Achewally when I read it properley, it's the WA State AG, with help oif FB, suing Adscend... ouch.
It's not like clicking "play video" automatically likes the page on Facebook. These people want whatever is on the other side and they actually DO share / like the link. It's stupid to blame somebody else - this is the actual users doing it. (unless the account is hacked, which is another story altogether.)
Just read this like 15 mins before you posted.
Very interesting read.
Goodluck to Ali

I could be wrong here, but as far as I know Adscend was not allowing facebook traffic. That has been the case for at least a year.
I haz FBML :P, NO you cannot have it!
Shit... Adscend is a good company and now they are facing such problems. I'm sure they will be a lot stricter than before...
hah so peerfly can welcome some new affiliates![]()
Some good points; you know I don't think FB/ AG would have filed if they didn't feel they had a very winnable case; and yeah this isn't about adscend this is about click/likejacking in general, and certainly food for thought.
I would not want to be Adscend in this situation.
I am expecting this will slowly float to other CPA companies too.
Dumb fucking media, loves to twist everything around along with this gov. It's not our fault some people on fb have the iq of a fucking basketball. There is no "auto sharing" or "forced" sharing involved. People CHOOSE to share it, to see whats behind the link. Gotta love when things get twisted to sound so bad..
Facebook says it believes Adscend earns more than $20 million a year doing this.
Time to set up a cpa company![]()
What I don't understand is how they made 20 million dollars with this? Can someone explain? did the real people sharing this and clicking ADs?
Since when would "6 digit numbers" = $1m? That's 7 figures.
Adscend will generate considerably more than $1m in revenue, so the $20m figure is probably right. I haven't read the article, but it's most likely referring to network revenue, not publisher earnings or profit. I'm not sure how it works in the US, but in the UK you'd be able to get access to their public accounts anyway, hence how they will have the number.
haha im saying 6 figures as in $999,999. But I mean they prob. are in the Mil. in revenue, I just don't think it's that high simply because I know how the gov and media portray people who are being accused of something. They exaggerate everything to make it sound like they are the bad guys.
Statement by Adscend Media, LLC Regarding the Complaints Filed Yesterday (Thurs., Jan. 26) by the Washington Attorney General's Office and Facebook
NEW YORK, NEW YORK, JANUARY 27, 2012 --
Adscend Media, LLC today vehemently denied the allegations in complaints filed yesterday by the Washington Attorney General's office and Facebook and characterized them as "absolutely and unequivocally false."
"At no time did we engage in the activity alleged in the complaints. Adscend Media will provide a vigorous defense against these false claims," the company said in a strongly worded statement released today.
"Adscend Media strictly complies with its legal obligations under federal and state law. We are undertaking an investigation to determine whether any of Adscend Media's affiliates engaged in the activity alleged by the Attorney General's office and Facebook. If they did, we are fully certain that the activity was conducted without the company's knowledge." the statement continued.
"If our investigation determines that any affiliate(s) engaged in this improper activity, Adscend will administer its long-standing company policy and immediately terminate the affiliate(s) responsible for these actions - as we have in the past when our internal mechanism has made such discoveries. Adscend Media does not tolerate affiliates that violate the law or Adscend's policies," the company further stated.
The company assured that the pending actions will not affect the high quality or continuity of service to Adscend Media clients.
Mark J. Rosenberg, the company's attorney, said, "We find it deeply troubling that the Attorney General's office made a public spectacle of these serious allegations without first questioning the company as part of its investigatory process and, even more inexplicably, without notifying the company that the complaint was being filed. Adscend Media first learned of the allegations from media inquiries."
Rosenberg, of the New York City based firm of Tarter Krinsky & Drogin, continued, "We are disturbed that the Attorney General's office would allow public resources to be used in an irresponsible manner, particularly when these allegations are absolutely untrue and could do tremendous harm to Adscend Media's reputation and business. Adscend Media is concerned about the source of these false allegations, and therefore is fully prepared to pursue a defamation action against the persons and entities responsible for tarnishing the reputation of the company."

You adapt. You overcome. You improvise
thanks for informing about this...
if they make 20 million dollars thru clickjacking, its HUGE
This wont last, this case isnt that grounded - its more like a note of warning to everyone using clickjacking cos this does exist. As long as adscendmedia can prove it never knew this was happeining the U.S govt has no case.
Giv a difficult job to a lazy man & he'll find an easy way to do it.
As i know Adscend was not allowing fb traffic anymore (more than 1 year ago)
Is ironic how they sue adscendmedia and do nothing to the network that "sponsor" 99% of scams and spams on fb (cpa lead )
$20m a year. Holy sh*t
Whatever you realize it or not, but the cyber... just has begin.
