I have seen that some viral scripts use different ways to open a window/share on facebook when people click on a button.

I am using a script right now which uses a method with the /dialog/feed etc. (which is taken from the facebook viral bomb script) just would like to have an opinion by experienced people what they use and what to look for.

For example, could i simply replace my top.location.href routine with window.open and open in a popup instead with the first method..or would it break something?

To clarify...for example there are ways to code using apps...and there are ways without a need for apps....why would one method better or safer than the other? Thanks

You're question is a bit too vague to answer completely. THe /dialog/feed way is the "standard" way to share things nowadays. You could use apps to request extended permissions and share things without the user knowing but this won't last long, this used to be ok quite some time ago.

If you're talking about the old share button I would use that, mainly because you can't detect if they effectively shared like you do with the /dialog/feed method.

There seem to be some scripts which seem do NOT require an app where they use the sharer.php URL like hxxps://www.facebook DOT com/sharer/sharer.php and i was just wondering what the effective difference is to the method eg. from "facebook viral bomb"

Yeah, what I was referring to in this quote was the sharer.php script. Anyway, as far as I know, you can't detect if people effectively shared your page using this kind of script and that's the main difference and why I prefer /dialog/feed (you can always rotate app ids if needed)

I noticed when i use the dialog/feed method, it always shares on the wall.
But when i use the other method i can also choose where to share it, on my wall or on my page.
