Why do people want many fans on their facebook page?

I see people asking for fans or likes.

Why do people want many fans on their facebook page?
Obviously it makes your page look more popular.
Are there other benefits?

If you have 5K fake or inactive or untargetted accounts click like on your page, how does that change things? When you make a new post on your facebook page, does it reach FEWER valuable people because it is spread among VALUABLE and fake people? Or what?

It's all about brand awareness.

Facebook fans have become a benchmark for the strength of the brand

Let's say that you have a new product, that new product has a fanpage, you build up that fanpage and have 50.000 fans. The next day you start an offline campaign that stats that your product has 50.000 fans and that it's very popular - the offline clients will nod their head because you have so many fans - nobody gives a fuck if their real or not.

If you open a fanpage with the name johndea and just put in theire a lot of fake/real facebook fans, then yes, you don't have any benefits from it :)
 
Keep in mind that even if fans are fake, it still show up on their profile what their likes and interests are etc. Fake profiles usually have some real friends, so the people with real profiles will still stumble across your page link and brand name...and thus increase brand awareness for you.

This is pretty much it. I have clients who complain that they aren't seeing any immediate benefit from me adding thousands of fans/likes, but when I explain that people are going to trust a company with 1000+ Likes, more than a company with 7 Likes, and I tell them that their page is now being suggested daily to 100,000+ people, they become much quieter.
 
Does it affect how often your posts appear in your follower's feeds?
 
I don't think so.

But i figured out that when you fill up a fanpage, let' say to 50.000.

The more you post the more do people leave your group.

How is the page being suggested to 100k+ people daily??
 
There is not much you can do with those fans if they are not targeted.. but if still they are real people then they can be made to do things.. its all about the marketing and reaching out max people.. you just have to learn to sell.. if you are good at it then you can end up making some sales with the facebook page.. or you can always use it to bring some traffic to the blog or website you want to promote.. lots of things can be done with facebook pages.. you just have to be creative and try your luck..
