Default So Let Me Get This Straight Sending More Than 5000 emails a day is illegal??

Sorry for the long title, but I was excited about a theory I had to help me market my local search engine to people from all walks of life here in Jacksonville Florida. I am hearing things like the FBI is going to come after you? I can see if it is extreemly excessive, but how is that illegal. I see so many amatuerish websites from attempts from people trying to get visible and after years of trying to learn seo, and linking and all this crap the one that seems like the best is not right at all?

How many emails are classified spam, and what business of what you do is the FBI's business, shit just pay taxes on what you make. So can someone put this is serious terms? I am harvesting emails from all of our colleges (just as an experiment) three top schools, here when most of them have the edu attached or they have it forwarded to a different one. Please I am serious worried, if I cannot get this model to work it will be a waste of 4 years. The cheapest and most economical option has rumors about the FBI..?? Some one fill me in please..

If it's a local search engine you should also think about on the ground marketing in your area.

Why don't you just Google "CAN-SPAM ACT of 2004" and read the thing?

Before you wasted four years to collect an email list that you cannot use, you should have done your homework.

I can't believe it's 2008 and people still think they can just blast emails to groups of random people. Obviously if you didn't know this was illegal then you won't be having any success with it anyway.

It's like people with "great ideas" they never tried themselves but tell others how incredible they are.

Thumbs down Re: So Let Me Get This Straight Sending More Than 5000 emails a day is illegal??

Well I do not know how anyone would not understand scalable search engines, I guess that why Google wasted investor money in letting people build custom search engines that did not come available until 2006. So for those of you that get ahead of your self without getting to know the "whole" story, you are wrong to say what you said. For the record I am not a programmer by trade, I am an economist, who learned basic programming and the learning curve is not the same because of the available technology back in 2003. I said that I was always against the idea, but I never looked at, I was more interested in building links and learning how to optimize my web-pages. There things I know in economics that you don't and we are just humans, so know one can know it all, unless you are running a upgraded processor in your brain.....but apparently no one really answered my question. This is suppose to be an intuitive forum, not a bunch of people who going to make jokes at people's questions....What good comes from being smart if you cannot communicate with other people.

Also the idea is a side project that I have been quite about only telling close friends, and co-workers, but the search engine was not where it was today to market in a ground level. Like I said, if you are going to take shots, get to know the whole story, and just answer the question like a professional. I mean that is what you are right? A professional. Act like one.

They should have taught you in economics not to waste 4 years of your life on something you know little or nothing about.

You have to determine first if something possible by what you currently have available to you, determine if you can do it legally, then do it.

And the majority of economics is crap, Why? because it doesn't include human nature and emotion.

You should read Socionomics by Robert Prechter Jr.

So basically if you can figure a way to get something for free, which by economic definition creates economies of scale it is illegal these laws are bull anyway. It reads, that there is a guideline. So guys why not just ask what my application and figure that the type of emails, I am going to send are way under this curve and I am not trying to reach millions of people in 24 hour or even within a year. I don't have to reach everyone, and there is a clause that says it cannot be random either.

But if it is sooo illegal how come people still get spammed, it get millions of spam emails per day!!!

Actually you are wrong, that would be like saying that playing PS3 is a waste of time. There are a lot of people trying to play a professional in something they know nothing about. You cannot speak on something you have not spent a lot of time studying. In fact, bad information is what I was expressing as a waste of time and my interest in building networks for people wanting to really get on demand information. So it becomes a waste of time, esp your comments. As for your comment, well we know you are far from a professional. You might want to save your reputation.

2 Things.

1. Obviously you want to make money from what you initially proposed, which would mean you didn't do research before wasting 4 years which = you wasted your time. And the thing that is now stopping you from completing it would have taken you 5 minutes to look up.

2. This is a forum in which I have no agenda except to speak freely about the topics at hand, I have no reputation to uphold and I have nothing to sell.

I own several successful businesses and when I start a new one I will make sure that the business model includes the idea can work in a legal manor when it is complete.

You asked "So Let Me Get This Straight Sending More Than 5000 emails a day is illegal??"

By the way if you BUILD the list yourself or go through a 3rd party list where they actually do the mailing you can email as much as you want, but you cant scrap your local YP.

Business sense...

I am already doing that. I just asked that what is really spam if it is targeted to a certain group of people. I have always been opposed to sending out emails in the past. This search engine works now and I get visits, I just feel that it is ready to go to the next level. I am actually stunned at the technique I am using to find the people I need to get in touch with is in the tens of thousands. I am just shocked. But my sources for Internet Marketing are just seo guys who are about social bookmarking. I have always felt that does not match this application. I just nervous about doing something I have no experience with. But I am learning.
