Default Opt-in system

Does anyone have any suggestions for some good web based scripts that would work well with a newsletter?
For example, you could configure a sign up page, allow users to opt-in (double opt-in if possible), send out email, and handle unsubscribing of users.

I'm sure there's scripts that do that, but as I'm new to the whole "running a newsletter" thing, anyone care to point me in the right direction?

Cheers.

It sounds like you're building an email list. If that's the case you want a double opt in list. Make sure to save the conformation from where they click the link in the email. This is important for verification.

Like todaydvd said you probably want to use something like aweber.

If you're just looking for something to send messages with in real time and not an auto-responder then I think aweber is overkill. I've used Da*Da Mail for newsletters for a long time and like it a lot, but I'm also one of those people who doesn't want his subscriber's information on another service's servers.

The only thing with running your own program is that you have to ensure you control the IP's you're using to keep them off of any blacklists for deliverability. I pay my provider an extra $2 per month for 2 private IP #'s and so far haven't ever had any real problems with blacklistings.

Code:

Thanks for the replies everyone.
I'm going to check out DaDa Mail and thanks for the IP tip, I'll have to ask my provider about that.
For the moment I feel that aweber could be a bit too much, as I'm just starting, I'd prefer to keep the costs down and try my luck with a web script and see how that goes.

Hey Mr Crazy...

If you want a good web script (I assume you mean Autoresponder Script) here's the one I use... you can download it free from my site: http://TheLazyListBuilder.com/Multi-...oresponder.zip

I'll leave it there a couple of days for you.

All the best

Since when do you need double optin? I wrote my own desktop software that sends out over 1000 optin (no confirmations) emails per day on a schedule, and never had a problem with ISP or canspam. According to my software, I have sent over 332k emails. No issues. The software sends out over multiple smtp's BTW

I use interspire product for e-mail ( works great for small list like mine ), and you can set it so that it will process your confirmation and help you create double opt-in list.

I did everything in the past by hand but in the last 3 months ( with the software ) my list have grown and my life is more profitable.

billy good

GetResponse has been pretty good to me. Cheaper than Aweber.

I wrote my own opt in list thing - have a look at ihlist.info.
One PHP file for the functions to subscribe / unsubscribe etc and a few html files to make it look pretty.

Am now writing the email sending part of it
