most email clients (both web based and applications) block images by default. If it is web based, then the referer will be revealed and they will surely know that you are email marketting, which is against the rules on many affiliate networks and sometimes specific offers.
I have not done much testing on application based email clients, but i know the big ones outlook/outlook express block any kind of images and in alot of cases html content in general.
because of all the clients blocking images by default, its probably a huge waste of time.

He is right. In most cases the email will be filtered into the junk/spam folder as well. Did testing with this to a few of the bigger email services using the img tags and results were less then desirable.
I would be interested in hearing if anyone has tried and what success if any they had.
Just drop the cookie in a link you provide that redirects to wherever dot com the i-frame is hidden... I guess it would be cool if you had a ton of product targeted email addys for an ebay affiliate.

Problem is that the CTR on email advertisements is very low. Most of your messages will likely hit the junkbox, never to even have the opportunity of getting clicked.

Yeah, thats why it would have to be emails harvested from a targeted audience like an opt in newsletter or some type of other product information... Meh, seems like a waste now that I think of it, but then again who knows if its tinkered with enough.... Maybe PPI and email marketing is a better angle.

One out of the box option here would be to target corporate email addies, as Outlook allows for graphical based signatures.
Set up your own business-y website, and use @yourdomain.com emails sent through Outlook to other @company.com emails. Of course this is also hoping that employees shop Ebay from their work computers, but you get the idea.
There are always backdoors... we need to stop asking "Is it possible?" and start asking "Is it worth it?" The solutions always exist, they just aren't always worth the effort.
Personally I've found that business in general, and marketing specifically is all about mindset... shift your mode of thinking and you'll be in a better position every single time.
