Default Safer To Send Emails Via Web Or Thunderbird?

I'm sending a small quantity of email through gmail. Would I be more exposed if i setup my gmail accounts to work through Thunderbird? Would it pass on my ip information?

I would not advise you use either. First of all the tor + thunderbird scenario is not plausible because your mail would never go out and regular old proxies wont do the trick either. What do you consider a "small quantity"?
