Lets say you are a dropshipper.

What happens if the person refunds their purchase? Do you have to pay completely out of pocket to pay them back?

If so, what happens if you are selling expensive items? One or two refunds, and your whole business crashes and you're $300 in debt?

Not sure what you're saying. You're a Drop Shipper worried about a customer wanting a refund?

Are you talking about refunds or chargebacks?

If you have a return policy and issue a refund, your distributor should credit you back when the item is returned.

The only thing you can do about chargebacks is to dispute them. But sometimes they will win and you will lose the money.

I suppose you are the seller using dropshipping. So if your buyer wants a refund from you, so you have to pay out of your pocket and then you will have to get your refund from your dropshipper.

If you are dealing with reliable dropshippers this is no problem at all. I also had to refund buyers for products that have been dropshipped to them. But always my dropshipper gave me back this money when the product had been returned to him.

Always check your suppliers returns policy before selling an item.
If they do not allow returns, I will not allow returns.

You cant be in business and worry about if a few customers want a refund. Sell a quality product and b e honest when you sell it and most people are going to be fine with it.

You are actually worrying if a customer you do not have yet will ask for a refund for a product you don't even sell yet, that he hasn't bought yet.

If they paid $50 for a lamp that you got for $20 and they want a $50 refund I dont see the problem. You have there money so give the money back ?? You make it seem like rocket science.

I believe the questions is:
Suppose you are getting the items dropshipped, for instance, you have listed an iPhone (phone) and plan to get it dropshipped soon after it sells. The way you'd be doing this is, as soon as the item sells say - $600, you will send your dropshipper the cost price which would be about $400 (example)

And 10 days later the buyer decides the phone is not what it was described and will return the item. Obviously, if you are a starter you will not have much money, so you will have to pay from your pocket. My suggestion to you is to never carry something that is too heavy for you. Dropshipping is a very risky business to get into, most of the people want to engage in dropshipping just for the sake of starting a little business. You could seriously go bankrupt, especially when you are looking at high figh branded products which cost a lot.

They will sell 100% at a good price and this motivates many people to jump into the dropshipping business, just remember, there are 100's of other people just like you who are getting the products dropshipped and on the other side there are 100's of people who pick stock up in 100's of quantities before reselling it. Obviously, the person who bulk buys will get it at a cheaper price.

You need to figure things out with the dropshipper about returns, returns just don't happen for no reason, if you are confident your product is legit, you should not bother thinking about returns much.
