Alright so earlier today PayPal limited my account for no damn reason, supposedly to confirm its me. I have my bank account and credit card linked to it so im verified, it has all my real info. They wanted me to confirm Photo ID and SSN(Social Security Number). For Photo ID they wanted a pic of my Drivers Licence or Passport but apparently im 17 and not yet 18 so I called them and told them I did not have neither. So they said to simply add my SSN and they will take care of the rest and unlimit my account. Now if I add my SSN wouldn't they be able to tell im not over 18? What can I do. Will they check my age if I add my SSN. Please let me know guys. Thanks. What can I do to get my account back?

No, you get a SSN since the day you are born.

there are not much chances if they (paypal) wants to confirm your identity. Perhaps you should now wait for another year to get the account unlocked. In case, you account get locked for 180 days then the funds would be automatically available to you for withdrawal.

in case, you do not have much balance in paypal account, then just go and make a new account with help of some adult in your house. that is all you can do

So im guessing there is no way to unlimit my account?

I would give them the ss # and offer anything else that you have that doesn't have your birthdate...utility bill, school id, scanned copy of your credit card. They are probably more interested in just proving WHO you are than how old you are.

I believe they can match a ssn to a birth date but I am not so sure if you will loose the money.
Normally, your parents can co-sign and I don't see why paypal wouldn't accept this method too. If all else fails you could ask one of your parents to provide their info perhaps?

Then again, I am no expert so could be totally wrong here.

Im just scared on doing that cause what if they take my identity? No one should ask for my SSN. But I dont know. Do you guys think im safe with them?

Go to Paypal.com. Get the number directly from the site. Call them. Again, they more than likely just want to verify who you are. You are willing to give them your ss# to verify. Add a year to your birthday verbally over the phone if you have to give it to them. Tell them you are very skeptical (and rightfully so) about sending this valuable info to them. Who ever you talk to on the phone should be able to tell you the reason they are trying to verify you again anyways.

But by giving them my Social wont they be able to tell my age?

Only the social security office can match your birthday to your SSN. PayPal wants your SSN because they now issue 1099's at the end of each year. They need your SSN to issue it. This is normal.

Well your post inspired me to try to get my pay pal account unlimited tonight after being limited for over a year now and I told them the exact same thing that you did that I did not have any type of photo identification that I needed to get my account unlimited and they told me that there is nothing that they can do until I can get any type of government ID .

Hope yours goes better than mine. I have over $100 locked away.

Well it seems PayPal is able to match your SSN to your date of birth. I called and gave it to them and they said the date of birth I gave them and the one on the SSN do not match. So apparently im not going to be able to unlimit it. Damn PayPal.

Do you have a credit card or student loan? They could possibly obtain your date of birth from a credit bureau but not just from a SSN alone.

Or have you had a car accident or been charged with a crime? Sometimes these records are search-able by SSN and could possibly have your birth date.

Yea I have a credit card linked to my account. Cause when I called they said the birth date I gave them does not match my SSN.

What they did then is they pulled your credit report. That would contain both your SSN and birth date.

they can't tell your birthday from ur SSN directly, but they can indirectly. social security number is 123-45-6789. 123= tells where u were born. I was born in Miami, FL, everyone born here has the same first 3 digits. 45= random digits, that tell your birthday, noone knows how exactly the month, day, year transfers to the 2 digit code.

However, paypal askes for your SSN, since they are a verified merchant with licensing, they are allowed to do a background check. From your SSN, they will gain your full name. Than use public resources to do a search of you, and find your birthday, addresses, etc.


If your doing something illegal ---> don't send them any docs. they will just collect your information and save it, and easily ban any new accounts. Just wait 180 days, to get funds (if u had any)

If your 100% legal ----> send them docs, they will delete your account for being under 18, but you will get your funds same day. And they won't add you to any blocked list, so when you are 18, you can make an account no problem. In the mean time, use a parent's info on paypal.
