Why is the culture on Ebay so Bad?
Man...I just started selling some items again on Ebay...and right away I run into real nasty buyers. OK they want to return the product..that's fine but the messages I get about how poor it is, how crap i am, if I do not jump through hoops right away thay'll do this and that.
These are legit prducts froim China and real cheap about $10 but you'd think I'd tried to scam them out of their life savings...These people wil lproably glaldy go down to the pub tonight and waste $50 on booze and a hangover no problem.
Which got me thinking why is the culture of ebay buyers like it is? Is it like that because it's over the Net and not face to face? Is most Ecommerce like this? Do Ebay encourage that kind of culture? I'll bet most of these people wouldn't dare go into a real shop and say the things they do in an email.
Well , no way would I run any kind of Ebay bizz. It would drive me insane.

well good for you but it deosn't mean you haven't run into problem customers does it?
I guarantee if you sold $100 bills for $10 you'd still get some complaints on Ebay.

Re: Why is the culture on Ebay so Bad?
ebay has given them that power. when ebay took away the ability of sellers to leave negative feedback it opened up the floodgates for a-hole buyers to take advantage.

Re: Why is the culture on Ebay so Bad?
My bet is it happnes a lot in any kind of E-commerce as well. No doubt people are much braver/ruder behind an email than face to face.

Re: Why is the culture on Ebay so Bad?
I hope the people who tries return the products are your competitors trying to play with you or scaring to run out of ebay.I too had seen people too rude on e-commerce sites.

Re: Why is the culture on Ebay so Bad?
Actually, don't price your items too cheap as they attract buyers that you just hate. Price it just slightly below the market price and you get legit buyers that appreciate the bargain.

Re: Why is the culture on Ebay so Bad?
the culture is bad because the idea behind ebay is to find a bargain, so you can't help but think you're going to run into some of those douchebags that walk into stores and start knitpicking and asking for discounts because a piece of tape is missing. my thought
“The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it.”

Re: Why is the culture on Ebay so Bad?
Bro it has got nothing to do with ebay.. well atleast what I mean by that is there are a lot of people who are extremely rude assholes with no manners or morals and unfortunately it seems some of those are your buyers at the moment.. I have dealt with many people on ebay and have been nice to them and in general I am a honest, nice & fair person.. if they be rude to you just reply telling them to please calm down and not be rude.

Re: Why is the culture on Ebay so Bad?
first of all, you sell toys from china, you have to think that these toys are for their children or as gifts, so if they see any problem or a poor toy so they will return it to you, just for children security

Re: Why is the culture on Ebay so Bad?
My favorite negative feedback is from a guy who purchased a $1.00 Case from me, with free shipping. He complained that it was CHEAP!!! LOL
Every now and then, I'll get a customer buy something.. then return it because "You shipped the wrong thing" then once they send it back and cuss me out, send me another message apologizing, it was the right item and they just got mixed up.. lol
You can always tell when people are having bad days at work.. they will usually just go over the top when sending you a message. I typically write back and say, I'm sorry we've all had those days, I will try my hardest to make things better.. they usually apologize and say they had a bad day lol
Customers, gotta love em
I don't think the culture has changed on ebay much, it also depends on which niche you are selling in.. some niches will have higher returns than others.. in my experience, dealing with apparel definitely has a much higher return rate then dealing with turbo's lol.
Shockingly, when I used to sell bootleg purses and wallets.. my return rate was really low.. lol, people were generally happy with their purchase.

Ebay is rough. You have to really know what you're doing before you get into it.

Re: Why is the culture on Ebay so Bad?
People hear horror stories of how others were scammed on eBay so when something remotely similar happens to them, they tend to overreact. Human nature, gotta love it.

Re: Why is the culture on Ebay so Bad?
Whenever you get "cheap" people together, there's always going to be people trying to get deals. I hate to say it, but it's true. It's too easy to blackmail on eBay. I had a few bad apples when I sold on there. One time I was rude right back. She said she never received the item even though tracking confirmation confirmed it. Kept threatening me with negative feedback. I finally gave her a refund. Then she leaves me a message saying something like, "Thanks! I plan to buy some more from you again!". LOL
I blocked her and wrote a shit positive comment calling her a scammer and all sorts of stuff. Even though you're not supposed to do it, sellers do that all the time. I know some people don't receive their package, but out of the 10 feedback she'd left, 8 were negative. Make sure you check your buyer settings as well.

This is the key. You'll be more successful if you stick to selling higher priced legit items. Cheap is a magnet for trouble in most cases, even IRL.

The price range from $0.99 to $12.99 seems to attract the worst kind of consumers.

That is why I only allow buyers to purchase 2 items from me in a 10 day period. One buyer purchasing multiple items from you can take out your whole account.

Re: Why is the culture on Ebay so Bad?
I rarely experience nasty buyers, if ever, but I think it REALLY depends on who your customer base is and what you're selling. My customer base is 90%+ adult males. And I hate to say this because I'm a woman (and a feminist, to boot!) but women are the worst customers. They tend to be cheap, impatient, demanding. Just an honest observation.

I noticed this as well. They seem so highly strung.

I think it's a combination of factors:
1) Being online. Let's face it people are 100X ruder behind an email than face to face
2) Being Ebay. They have given the keys to the asylum to the inmates and they are running wild. "Look Fred..i shout jump and the vendor has to do it..LOL it's given me power!"
3) Selling low ticket items. I guess if you deal in cheap products at low prices you only attract cheap buyers.
4) The economy. People are worried. Having big bills, feeling down, thier job not secure etc.. so they come online and take it out on the vendor.
Oh well then I need to change my products.

yeah possibly this. They are almost expecting it to be rip off etc....?

Re: Why is the culture on Ebay so Bad?
Because of the products I sell, I attract mostly affluent gay men. And I've got to say, of all demographics, they're the BEST. Never return, rarely complain, always pay.
