Hi,

I have an acquaintance that I met a few weeks ago that is a major seller on the net of refurbished computer systems. She said she primarly buys the systems on a pallet load basis from small to large companies that are updating their systems and getting rid of the old computer equipment for wholesale on dozens or even hundreds of pallet loads. I took a quick peek at her warehouse and it was literally filled wall-to-wall with hundreds of different pc's and servers.

Any clue or idea where to find out about these types of liquidation sales or where or what her source is? I've probably searched for hours on the net and haven't even come close to finding anythign!

Just a guess. She probably has links with IT/networking/data/... consultation firms, these are people who hand lots of equipment upgrades for businesses. If you reach a deal with these people(probably some kind of %age cut), then they would recommend you as a buyer for the old equipment their customers are getting rid of.

The point is, she must have a strong connection(s) somewhere that has this information as a byproduct of their business.

Yeah I would agree with Genjutsu, ask your friend. Typically though everyone who has a good supplier likes to keep thier suppliers to themselves for obvious reasons. So maybe you will have to get her drunk first.

If you are hardcore enough you could go dumpster diving at your friends warehouse and hope they dont shred documents. Maybe you will get lucky and find a purchase order

My brother moves about 300 laptops a week. All refurbished Dells. Obviously I can't reveal sources but I can tell you that asset recovery companys are a great source IF you have alot of buying power.

but i agree somewhat with drdankmendez and bozoclown. maybe she has strong connections within the industry but at the same time you need reliable sources if your business depends upon it. could be possible though and it is an idea that crossed my mind.

look up Unicor . . Federal prison system employs prisoners to refurbish old government computers, you can buy them by the pallet.

Sounds like a lot of hassle and a major pain in the ass doing things that way.
You'd have to rent a warehouse, hire staff, have adequate cash to buy the refurb computers, know suppliers or have contacts that won't screw you around and then you have to find a buyer to buy them. If you don't, you will have dead inventory and cash tied up in product.

You will also probably be stuck with crap you don't want or can't sell from time to time.
Then you'd have to collect money from pricks who don't want to pay, have shipping hassles etc. Have to deal with refunds on shit that don't work etc etc.

Thats why dropshipping and being a middleman was invented. Just move the stuff from Point A to Point B without seeing the stuff.

i agree with izeek that it is a hassle. she must have had at leat 25 people working for her. but man the volume she was moving every freakin day was just jaw dropping!!!

If you're really talking about old computers these go for free. You shouldn't have to pay anything for them, but I don't see why anybody is buying them. The companies are getting rid of them because they're old, and they want them disposed of. They even pay people to come haul them away because they're not allowed to throw them in the trash.

Don't tell me people are "refurbishing" these and selling them on eBay. What a joke!

A lot of big companies lease their computers (laptops for their sales force, etc.) Usually these computers are less than a couple years old, so they are not totally obsolete when the lease ends and they are turned in.
