Now I know that marketing on cl directly can be extremely profitable. I had my first 5k blackhat month using cl. And I've made thou$ands doing whitehat marketing on craigslist. Usual stuff....

But On a whim, i threw up a cl personal (a real one of me with my personal e-mail and a real picture) basically calling myself a big needy wuss.

Funny results actually... I got a few "real" responses. But I got one that was clearly spam "HEY I'M A SPAMBOT AND I JUST SAW YOUR AD. YOU'RE CUTE TEE HEE" one of those.

So I send a reply from a throwaway e-mail to see what the autoresponder kicks back, and sure enough it's a pitch for @matuerm@tch. I look into it, and d@tingg0ld is paying $25 per paid sign-up, but nothing for free sign-ups on that offer.

How does this guy make enough to make it worth it? I knew within .002 seconds I was being spammed... Is everyone else on the net just that damned gullible?? and even if they are, why pitch a paid dating site to people doing just fine posting free ads on CL??? Just seems to be a disconnect there. No congruency.

I don't know. I guess I'm waiting for someone to tell me I'm wrong...

They're probably just noobs... I totally agree, it not only fails miserably at generating money for the spammer, but it also pollutes CL to the point that if this continues to spread, people will not want to use CL anymore.

I'm kinda sad that the blackhat world is spamming CL so bad, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I used to make $25k a month posting to CL 100% by hand.... until you all ruined it.

And yes, users are that dumb. I still can't believe how dumb people are... I sold a picture of a xbox 360 on ebay recently for $200... lol...

Maybe you instantly knew that it was spam, because you've been on the internet for a while now, and are a marketer, so you know how to spot these sorts of things. Hell, even before I knew about marketing, I had just been on the internet for so long, that I could figure them out and know what was spam. Thing is, there's new people getting online for the very first time every day, and they probably fall for it.

What kind of blackhat stuff are you doing on CL to generate the 5k? Also, if you wouldn't mind talking about the whitehat methods as well, would certainly help out.

Yeah they do. But On the landing page this guy was pushing, they only paid out for paid sign ups. Still seems weird to me.

Looking at the landing page source, it seemed to me that this guy was technically skilled enough that he wasn't a newb. Seemed like he had a pretty decent handle on things. But all in all, I still can't see it making money...

Well, basically CL posting for a cheap car stuffed with a cb aff link. Response e-mail after a few days tells them I sold the car, they should try "cb car auction site" A few more bits and pieces to establish "credibility" turned 500-700/month into 5k+ for a few months before it started drying up...

Whitehat, doing real marketing for real businesses. That's what I do during the day. Copywriter/ Marketing consultant. I actually landed a few clients by sending them an e-mail to tell them that I thought their ad/website sucked...

"If you're not making money, I can tell you why. Call#####" That's about as easy as it gets. Like shooting money in a barrel.
