Graphical CL Ads
Ok, I'm not going to lie to you and say "I started using this tool online and noticed a 50% increase in sales"...mostly because I don't make anything for this application.
I AM, however, asking people to use my application (it's free...not like a trial or anything...and it's Flash-based).
What it does: Graphical CL ads. I'd love to go into technical details, but that's kinda boring (it uses PHP and Python in the backend and Flex/AS3 in the frontend....cool stuff).
Try it.....please! I need beta testers: hxxp://www.listing-doctor.com/

Re: Graphical CL Ads
-edit nevermind, very slick!
Other than that, it seems really easy to use and very ingenious.

Re: Graphical CL Ads
Ok, I am not going to say that you did this, BUT........
I just had my computer block an attack from: hxxp://aoyafgves.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?dx
And this was AFTER I uploaded a picture using your online tool.......
In all fairness I also was playing with some software, BUT.......those files were scanned before I used the program.
ALSO.....this is an http attack........

Re: Graphical CL Ads
How do we know that your tool is safe to use? Also, what is the purpose?
Again, I don't want to be unfair to you, but you can see why one would be concerned....
Edit......I looked at the sample ads and they look nice....
But, how are they more effective than other ad-types?
And you only have 2 posts, that really makes people suspicious around here.

Re: Graphical CL Ads
Well, I'm not sure how I can convince you my intentions are honest.
First, to answer the question of what the app does and why: It simply builds graphical ads and hosts them with an easy-tocut-and-paste setup. I'm really just looking to give a new type of tool in the same general flavor as Postlets and such.
To appease any worries about security threats: The frontend app is all written in Flash, which leaves any options for a malicious programmer very limited (you can check for Flash by right clicking anywhere on a flash app/movie...try it on youtube or pandora...same technology).
Now, to say my intentions are 100% pure wouldn't be the full truth....ready for it?......After I finish the beta version and work out any remaining bugs and throw in a few of the pending feature requests, it will (most likely) become a pay service....I believe in open source with all my heart, but I also believe in rent and phone bills. :-)
I don't know how to prove myself or my application's worth, I usually let my merits create themselves and my work always speaks for me....really, I'm just a guy in an apartment who thought this would be a neat application to write.

hes right, the only thing that he can potentially do is place a cookie on your computer at best. Also you dont download everything, the final image is hosted on his server.

Re: Graphical CL Ads
Very nice but an obvious problem. Your URL will be blacklisted by CL very quickly if people start using this on a large scale. Someone else had something very similar to this and it is good but very easy to stop if you just have 1 URL and everyone is posting that in their ads.

Re: Graphical CL Ads
To get around this when you have finished creating the image auto publish it to a free image host eg imageshack, But put a water mark on the image so other will come to create there own image. Looks a great program and love the way it create the image. Good use of different programming languages.

Re: Graphical CL Ads
I've thought of that problem and a free hosting server would be a great option (is automation possible with those without hackie scraping and macro setups?....I'll surely be researching this option as it will also reduce the bandwidth consumption from my servers).
The one factor that makes this a hard call is the potential profitability of the app. I would, at some point in the future, like to generate income from this app and moving to a remote host seems to detract from that possibility to some extent.
Any thoughts you may have to the usability of the app AND the possible changes to the system to keep everything on the level with CL and the community would be greatly appreciated. I'm an open source dev for the most part and I know the power of more than one mind thinking about these obstacles.

Re: Graphical CL Ads
Most image host you can upload var a http post and you dont have do any fancy macro's
Becuase the href link is removed from your site you will have to watermark the images with your domain to get more customers. If your images are good I am not sure why people would not want to pay for this service or maybe extra to have the banner removed.
