can I spoof a referrer?

I will have hits coming from places that are not allowed on this campaign I'm using.

I know I can blank the ref, but is there anyway at all to make the up?

I'm trying a pay per impression campaign and want to use autosurfs.

Just to clarify: user has an autosurfxxx.com/ID url, he goes there and in an iframe, other participant sites rotate with a 10-15 sec timer. Eventually my site will show up in that iframe, giving me impressions. But of course, showing the referrer of the autosurf site.

Blanking the ref completrly for ALL views sounds a bit suspicous, IMO.

If spoofing isnt possible, what about I use a disposable site in the autosurf, that redirects to my actual site? Would the autosurf ref still show up?

I've tried a metarefresh but it still came up... maybe a double meta would work..

any ideas guys?

Spoofing the referer on porn sites works, I'm sure its possible with mainstream sites as well.

It's not that easy to spoof the referer. But you can control what referer you want to show. All you have to do is to use a javascript redirect.

For example Site A meta refresh to Site B. On site B you use a javascript redirect to redirect to your landing page and your referer will be that of Site B.

He provides an easy way to control your referrer.

There is also a plugin called CPARedirector that Brad on BHW has written where you can create a wordpress blog with a post, then add links to that post leading to where you want to redirect to and the CPARedirector will give you a means to redirect and make it look as though the hit came from that post. Here's his post.
