I'm a black hat "newbie", so you'll have to forgive me if is a stupid question ...

... I came across a technique a while back which people claim can allow you to fake your PR by doing a 301 redirect (for the Google bots only) to a site with the desired PR, while still allowing human visitors to view your site regularly if they type in your URL.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Also, does anyone know of a WordPress plugin that would do this?

There's 'cloaking', where you show one page of content for the go0gle bots, another for human visitors, I don't know if you can use the same technique for what you want.

Cloaking is a bit complex and high risk as far as seo goes from what I've read.

What I'm talking about is redirecting search engine spiders using a 301 redirect to a site with the desired page rank, so they think your site redirects to this site permanently. As a result Google assign the PR to your domain of the site you redirect to. But if humans visit your site they won't be redirected.

I know this technique works, I just can't figure out how to do it.

You can probably hammer this to do what you want, it's one way of cloaking (by user agent).

If you were to do user agent cloaking (which IMO is not a good idea if doing it by itself). make sure to include mediabots such as User-agent: Mediapartners-Google* which alot of useragent cloakers miss and get whacked by Google. I would suggest you get a real good list of IPs, and do ip cloaking if you were to do it.

Wow, thanks! I understand the concept, but I'm afraid this is very technically overwhelming for me. Is there any way I could pay you to help me with this, and walk me through setting this up step by step on a WordPress blog?

you would need to redirect all google robots in order to not be caught.

you won't detect them all by user agent. you would need a very up to date list of all google robot IPs to pull this off. - There are lists out there - not cheap - and never 100% complete - but this is as close as it gets.
