Posting on Kijiji
Hello, I am new here and not sure if this is the right category to post, and need a bit of help with posting ads...I post on Kijiji, but they only allow a lister to post in one location, and my business covers multiple locations...did it anyway with one address, all my ads got yanked...so then I tried multiple addresses, those, too got yanked, since they track I P addresses...not sure what to do, now...I was on HideMyAss, for the I P hiding stuff, but someone told me to come here because my problem was less proxy related...
I really want a solution, as I am losing advertising while I "wait for a response" from customer service that may never come, based on what I read on Kijiji's boards, and I don't want to get banned for posting, then I'd really be in a pickle!
Oh, and if you can explain in simple terms, that would be better, though hubby can translate computer speak if I don't really understand.

Re: Posting on Kijiji
Hidemyass has been abused way too much. You'd probably be better off using your blocked IP then them.
Try getting a paid proxy (local to the area your posting in) and a new email for each area.
Proxylist.co might be good, but I don't know about the locations of each proxy, if they'd have ones in areas that you want to post necessarily. VPNs might work too.
If you use DSL, its probably pretty easy to change your IP once by power cycling the modem, but that depends on your ISP. Changing your IP for each area you post in by power cycling might be enough.
I'm not sure how Kijiji compares to cl in terms of ghosting and all, but you probably want to change up the ads a bit for each area so they don't look like copies of each other.

Thanks, for the response...I didn't understand most of it, but hubby will...I had been changing the ads, but unfortunately because of the I P tracing, it didn't matter before...hoping something like this will work...I can't keep the old email addresses for the further locations, though, can I...they would undoubtedly be associated with my current I P??

Does your internet come from a split phone line (split to the phone and a modem), or a cable?
If it comes from a phone line this will probably work.
Go to whatismyip.com.
Take note of the IP that it tells you (e.g. 123.233.22.4).
Try unplugging the power cord on the modem (little box with lights on it) that connect to the phone cable. Leave it unplugged for a minute or two, then plug it back in. If you unplugged the right box, your internet will be inaccessible for a few minutes. Be careful not to confuse your modem with your router, the modem is the one with the connection to the phone outlet.
Go back to whatismyip.com. If your IP is different now, feel free to post on kijiji again, but be sure to use a different email address. Repeat this process (using different emails as well) and as long as you get a new IP, you should be okay to post in a new area, but be sure to repeat before switching areas. You can setup all your emails to forward to one account if you like too, kijiji won't be able to tell.
I've tried to explain things as non-technical as I can, but post back if you're stuck on anything.

Hi, Matt, we have DSL high speed, and a wireless router...it's not connected to the phone...would I have to do the same for that?

If you have DSL, it definitely goes to the wall at some point with a phone cable. You might have a splitter somewhere, and maybe a filter (depends on how the house is wired). Your router might also be your modem. Does your wireless router run back to any other box? If you're with bell seeing as your in canada, the box that says bell (eww, bhell) is the one you have to unplug. Follow the cables connected to your router until you find your way to the wall via a phone line. Follow that cable back to the first box it connects to, and pull the power on that box.

Okay, Matt, I get what you are saying...I have to do the same with the modem whenever Eastlink screws up and needs to be reset...will I have to unhook and reset every time I want to change locations...there's no nice little "refresh" button I can click?

Pretty much. Double check that your ip changes and you'll be fine. Its a bit of a pain, but *should* work if your relatively close geographically to the other places you want to post.
It will most definitely get you started posting locally again.
Also, you'll want to clear your cookies (not sure if its necessary for Kijiji) to try and stay truly anonymous (looking like a different person posting each ad).
Good Luck!
