I need a "for dummies" explanation on cloaking
I don't understand the difference between cloaking and using 301 redirects. Like for CPA offers, I set up a 301 redirect for the link, so that the actual offer appears on the page that sends the referrer... How is cloaking different, and whats the simplest way to do it?
Thanks!!!!

Re: I need a "for dummies" explanation on cloaking
Site A = BH site
Site B = WH moneysite
301 Redirect
traffic lands on Site A and is redirected to Site B
search engine bots land on Site A and are redirected to Site B and spider the content of Site B
Cloaking
traffic lands on Site A and is redirected to Site B
search engine bots land on Site A and spider the content of Site A
In a nutshell:
Site A is keyword-optimized and it ranks high for certain keywords. The content may not be readable or usable to get sales.
When a visitor clicks on the results in the search engines it never sees Site A but lands directly on your optimized sales-page on Site B.

Re: I need a "for dummies" explanation on cloaking
I've got a question. Does cloaking techniques still work?
I read the topics about google banned bmw website which used cloaking tools 3 years ago. I quite sure that google algorithm can analyze the cloaking and just wondering why this techniques last long for many years.

Analyse..?
Possibly..but if google really cared and had the ability..there would be no sites cloaking..I have a couple of small cloaked sites..they have been going for nearly 1 year..the only sites I have lost in the past..were because I spammed backlinks too quickly..
The techniques have lasted for so long because...they still can work..
Bottom line..if the technique didnt work"we" wouldnt use it..

Re: I need a "for dummies" explanation on cloaking
I still have a license for SearchEngineCloaker that I bought about 4 year ago. I started a thread with this question: Is SEC still viable? Is it worth my while to invest in a few domains to use it?

Re: I need a "for dummies" explanation on cloaking
I assume you have to be smart about cloaking. You can't just load up a page full of your keywords for bots or they will see it for what it is.
I didn't realize people were still doing this.

Correct. That won't do any good.
You need optimized pages for 1 or 2 keywords.
The same SEO rules as with WH sites.
Keyword density, unique content , title, tags, description, H1, etc.
Difference with WH sites is that the content can be totally unreadable since no human eyes will ever see it.
The purpose is to have one site with many related keywords/pages in the SERPS.

Thanks yowies. I've got it now. Anyway I'm so curious about what you have done. Your site was lost because you spammed it heavily in short time. What is "Lost" ? Just drop in SERPs or de-indexed.

Re: I need a "for dummies" explanation on cloaking
So, from what I understood cloaking goes like this:
I have a WH site optimized for Keyword A which ranks #1 on Google, because I've done SEO on it, wrote content which is useful to visitors but doesn't presell or isn't usable to get sales, got backlinks,etc... Google is happy with my content, that's why it ranks my site #1.
Now, when visitors search for Keyword A they will see my site in the #1 result and click it, but they won't see the site with content, instead they will see a landing page which presells them and get commissions when visitors buy smth, right?
In a nutshell, cloaking is: show 1 page to Google and another different page to visitors without Google knowing? Am I right? Plz correct me blackhit if I'm wrong...
Also does cloaking works with Adwords and PPC?

Re: I need a "for dummies" explanation on cloaking
Yes because the cloaking engines read the incoming IP and useragent and checkit in various ways to verify where it is from. Google wont know because google will always see site A. you cant fake an IP and google cant crawl or wont crawl with a fake DNS entry without taking a heap of shit for it.
cloaking with PPC is a lot tougher but it can be done.

Re: I need a "for dummies" explanation on cloaking
@THUNDERELVI
Yes, that's right. You describe the core of cloaking.
You manually rank a site for a keyword (writing content, SEO, backlinking, etc.) but direct the traffic to a page where the money is made.
Only thing is that it's not really a WH-site...
The moment you turn on cloaking it becomes a BH-site with all the risks you take with BH-sites. Depending on the scripts you use and the precautions you take, these risks are minimal or ridiculous...
To take this to a higher level you can use a script that creates the site with pages of optimized content and takes care of the cloaking and redirecting. Fantomaster Shadowmaker does this.
Another script I use at the moment is WPCloaker in combo with autoblog plugins. With the autoblog plugins I fill the blog with keyword optimized "unique" content and WPCloaker takes care of the cloaking.

Thnx for confirming my doubts blackhit, I checked both products and it seems that WPCloaker is more powerful since it can work on WP and also less expensive, is there any possibility that WPCloaker can leak and the search engines especially Google will find out about my cloaking pages?

No..
Fantomaster is more powerful than WPCloaker(which i use).
Fanto can make you a whole site with many pages on auto....wpcloaker makes small sites which you create with wp plugins..
is there any possibility that WPCloaker can leak and the search engines especially Google will find out about my cloaking pages?
Thats called a rhetorical question..
Is it possible for google to spot the cloaked page....yes...
Is it probable..no...
I dont care about a slow page download for customers and leave WPC set on reverse dns lookup...

Yes you are right Fanto is more powerful then WPCloaker, that's why it's more expensive, I got confused, what I really meant is WPCloaker is more for me since I'm a huge fan of WP and WP gives a lot of love to SEO as well.
So, Fanto is an autoblog and cloaking program in the same time? Can it work on WP?

Re: I need a "for dummies" explanation on cloaking
ok, we've gathered some great info on cloaking for seo purposes... and thanks everyone who chimed in.
my next part of this puzzle though is how this works with affiliate links. whats the real difference between cloaking an affiliate link and just using a 301???
