I'm thinking about making a product for CB and have some questions for those with experience.
Firstly, coming up with an idea, I've been a hobbyist game programmer for 4+ years and got my first professional developer job several months ago where I've been using some really cool technology which I figure I can roll into an ebook or video tutorials.
A couple product ideas I can think of:
- zero-hero walkthrough of the game engine I use, highlighting the awesome parts along with providing code and demo scenes to work off as a template. A walkthrough making a game for several platforms, android, web browser, and pc/mac standalone.
- particular niche: at work I build augmented reality apps, as well as interactive games using the kinect sensor and openNI drivers, also doing motion capture with the kinect, and even 3d modeling/texturing with it...
- a short game from a-z for mobiles...code, tutorial videos, and a template they can extend as their own.
- a modeling tutorial on how to make terrains with blender 3d (which is free) for use in numerous game engines.
Any of those sound promising? Would you recommend going for really technical walkthroughs, say using php and mysql with the game engine, or creating a questing system/dialogue trees, etc..?
