Default Clickbank - Worth creating your own product?

I'm curious what experience some of our fellow BH members have. I'm sure some of you must have BH products, any success or horror stories to share? After downloading a few CB products, even mildly successful ones, I'm shocked at just how crap they are!

I'm a bit of a jack of all trades, master of none - I can write, design, IM and have the fundamentals of marketing psychology down. What would you say is the main hurdling block between a failed CB product and a successful one, save for the quality of the actual product?

Do you need a wealth of investment and connections to proven affiliates to get a product off the ground?

Only if you can ensure that they convert well. Otherwise, no.

I released my own product in August.

    I sold about 1 a week for 12 weeks.

I have 13 sales total. Made about $270 for myself.

It took me hours to make the software though and the product is far too niche

meh sometimes I just feel like making an ebook

If you can deliver a product that people want and there's little to no competition then you're golden.

If you're trying to compete with big dogs then you have to create one hell of a product and sales pitch.

However, the ceiling is substantially higher. If you CAN create a solid offer, and you can not only compete with them, but get them on board with your offer, then you actually have the potential to BECOME one of the "big dogs."

Finding a niche with a good potential customer base, yet no competition, is difficult. However, unless you're truly confident in what you're offering, it's a good place to start.

That's success. If you come in $1 better off, it's technically profitable.

Yes, I should have mentioned in my opening post that I'm currently making no money from internet marketing.

Making a few hundred dollars a month from clickbank would be a success, at the moment. I have a website idea I've been working on for a month or two that will require some decent coding/programming - perhaps something to the tune of 1-2k, which I can't really afford on my current wage. I've made money from Clickbank in the past but imagine selling a product could be a quicker path to some easy money. I'm hoping to use Clickbank to fund my other project, but I suppose CB could be a good fallback if for some reason my planned website ends up somewhat of a damp squib. So for now I'm trying to use websites like clickbank as a vehicle to get the website i've been quietly working on, online.

The site I'm trying to fund I intend to make money through CPM ads and direct campaigns, with recognised companies like Nike, once I establish the websites popularity and brand - which shouldn't be too hard, as my sports videos get millions of organic views on Youtube and much of the content on the website will be viral-friendly. The traffic I intend to attract should also be advertiser friendly. To make decent money I will need an average CPM of .50 cents upwards. Heard a lot of different accounts of CPM rates so not sure how achievable that is, ideally $2-3 CPM would be great but probably fantasy. The website isn't wholly original but I think I have the tools and the right focus to make it work.

Here's a design draft or two if anyone would like to see, I'm quite proud of what I've got so far(if you hadn't noticed lol), probably one of my better website designs. The designing has been hard though as I've been thinking from a financial point of view and trying to cram in as many ads as possible. At the moment the pages are hovering between 8 - 14 banner ads a page.

I'll immerse myself in CB wisdom for the time being. Appreciate the responses, especially from OT, your posts on the subject always seem to be good value
