Complete noob here. Starting today as of 12/23!
Day 1
Heya forum. I just bought a domain for my niche, which ended up being $10 for a whole year. I have plenty of time to make mistakes and learn a lot along the way. The guide/method I'm going to try is the one by meathead1234 about what he calls "SEO-jacking".
I'm still confused by what the writer of the guide means by "cloaking affiliate URLs". My guess is that you use a tinyurl or something of the sort...?
I've signed up for a ClickBank account and already have a webhost set up. My next step is to write some reviews on my blog, and then spread it out for everyone to view and see. I think I'll start out with three reviews, and then move up to several more once I feel like I've spread enough attention on forums and blogs.
Here's to hoping that the niche I picked is good enough to keep me going. *crosses fingers*

Yea, it's easier than you think. Just don't get scared of not earning $ at start or get any visitors.
Keep doing what you're doing... Don't give up... in the end...you'll be seeing $$$$$ all over you
Merry Christmas

Sorry, I'm new to the whole IM thing, and nothing on the stickies said I couldn't post here. Plus, I am using ClickBank as my CPA so it is relevant to a certain extent. If my journal thread here is an issue despite seeing other journal threads in this same section, then I will send a request to a moderator to move it to a more appropriate section.
Thanks,
StrawHat.

Nothing in your post suggests that clickbank is what you are getting into.

Re: Complete noob here. Starting today as of 12/23!
Cloaking means hiding the URL so instead of a long affiliate link like clickbank.com?32439234?234kdcvsjivj43kermg you use a cloak to make it yourdomain.com/product.php

Re: Complete noob here. Starting today as of 12/23!
Hi, if you are doing reviews you should put them into videos using fiverr or doing it yourself. Some revelant and quality videos will help you gain credibility and traffic. What I did with mine is adding my videos and then mass friend invite people on youtube in the same niche with a youtube software. I just let my software run and it will start driving traffic to your channel then your website on its own while you work on your website.
That was just my advice, that's what i did to start driving traffic to my website when it wasn't ranked, now my channel is growing on its own (still adding one or two video each week).
Hope this helps.

Good luck! I'm embarking on the same journey myself. I've managed to read up on "seo-jacking," research my niche, set up my website, and is now writing review articles. Let's make money.

Re: Complete noob here. Starting today as of 12/23!
Hopefully you're on Wordpress, because it is fantastic for newbies. You can get a great looking site quickly, and have tons of functions that would be difficult to add with a regular site.
Cloaking the URL, means not having a direct link from your main page to the affiliate link. Using tinyurl or a similar program could work, but the best way for both click through's and SEO is a link through your site.
Personally I use a WP plugin called Redirection, which creates a 301 redirect (it also counts how many times your link is clicked). Basically you create a link at yoursite.com/bike (or whatever product/name you choose) and it will take you to the affiliate link automatically. If you aren't on wordpress, just Google 301 redirects as they're fairly easy to setup.
Review sites are great. The real backbone of the approach is in the research. If you can get a decent domain, for enough searches of a quality keyword; you'll get the traffic and get it to convert.
$10 for the first year of a domain is good, but keep an eye out for coupons. A lot of the domains I buy are only $1 for the first year, but the most I ever pay is $7.50.
Taking action is the only way you're ever going to make money online, so it's great to hear you're doing just that. Best of luck in your ventures, and keep coming back to BHW. It's a goldmine.

Day 2
Gone for a bit for Christmas shenanigans. I'm kicking myself back into gear before school starts again. Today I was going through the threads and found Challenge 2010. Since it came up multiple times, I decided to look into it and it's absolutely great for a noob such as myself. Going through half of Module 1, then continuing for the next few days straight. I've set up a domain name already and have it redirect to my blog.

Re: Complete noob here. Starting today as of 12/23!
Day 3
Haven't gotten much of anything done since I went out for a drive with my new radar detector. I've started messing around with Market ***** a little bit so I can get through module 1 of Challenge 2010. I'd like to go through module 1 in its entirety before I head to bed tonight.

In review site , have a star rating for products that you're promote are also great way to attach visitors while choosing what they should order
. Affliate marketing is not easy to master , but once you did it , the rest is cake . Just never give up !
Good luck !

Day 4
It took me a while to get my creative juices flowing to come up with a bunch of keywords, but I think I made some decent ones. My only hurdle at the moment is Market Samurai constantly crashing on me whenever I try to do the SEOC analysis.
Edit: Updating Adobe Air from 1.5 to 3.x did the trick. Didn't know my version of Air was so old.

Re: Complete noob here. Starting today as of 12/23!
Day 5 and 6
Progress has been slow again. Partly because I have to buy another domain (the first one I bought ended up being a mistake in terms of the right amount of competition, traffic, etc), and also because I've been enjoying my last couple of days before school starts again.
I've done a lot more research on more niches this time and ran them through the Challenge 2010's filters. None of them made it, so I had to come up with another one. I finally found one that meets all the criteria, but one of the keywords is not particularly usable for the domain. I'll either find a way around it, or find another micro-niche again.

Re: Complete noob here. Starting today as of 12/23!
Day 7
Still researching micro-niches. I would have never imagined doing so much research using Market Samurai.

Re: Complete noob here. Starting today as of 12/23!
One thing i took from that is that it seems like you bought the domain before doing the keyword research. Always research first, then when you've got a decent keyword, try and get an exact match domain it will help. I did exactly that with my first site, and even though it looked great and the CTR was good i was getting no traffic from search engines

I did do research. However, it was a completely different method from Challenge 2010 and its criteria.

Re: Complete noob here. Starting today as of 12/23!
Hi, I think challenge 2010 is more of like a guide for IM. Sometimes you don't have to really meet all criteria. Sometimes you just have to gamble and try it out.
In the end, the most important thing would be your traffic generation and the content on your website. It would be good to have optin box so you can capture leads and build a list.
Hope this helps. =)

The criteria is pretty strict. I've found a micro-niche with 6 keywords that meet the criteria, but I can't use any of them as a theme keyword. I'll take your advice and gamble with the closest thing I can find.

Re: Complete noob here. Starting today as of 12/23!
Another thing to realize is that the challenge criteria is set up to give you the best possible shot at success. Their criteria is a guideline, especially when it comes to competition. Personally, I have no problem going up against 50 million competitors, the idea that I should not consider anything that has more that 30,000 competitors is absurd. When I first saw the challenge the competition threshold was 100,000.
Also, even when you have ALL your stuff right, if you build 10 sites, you will be doing very well if 3 are successful. You will build many sites that seem perfect, but never go anywhere. Only as your experience grows will your successe rate improve.

Yeah, maybe raising the threshold to 50,000 will keep me from wasting so much time on research and get to the actual website-building and whatnot.
