I just wondered apart from Paypal - i have used them. What other really good companies there out there which can purchase payments online? Im from the UK and someone suggested i open a merchant account with HSBC to handle online payments but i now have come to realise that this requires a IMA application which is not the easiest way to accept payments online.

Im about to launch a product which will handle as well as customer payments, business to business payments so obvisally a good payment gateway will come in handy. Im going to be doing business all around the world so i suspect ill be accepting payments in many currencies.

As its a new business i cannot apply for a IMA - Internet Merchant Account right away so i am just looking for a good PP - Payment Processing company?

Thanks for these guys any others? I noticed the bigger companies don't use PP so i was looking more along the lines of what these companies are using?

Nice dude seen this mentioned elsewhere on the internet too, have you used these guys before? I wanted to try and keep focus even when customers are paying on my own website as opposed to redirecting them to another page outside of my domain as far as i can see 2Checkout does direct users away from your main website although i could be wrong?

I'm not sure I understand this as without a merchant account you won't be able to receive payments - even if you pay for a payment processor.

Since you are based in the UK and have had a PayPal account I believe there are only 2 other options of a combined merchant account and payment gateway for you to consider i.e. Nochex and Worldpay. I work for Nochex so I am biased, but I think it would be worth your while to apply to both companies for accounts.

In the long run you might find that it is better value to get an IMA with one of the banks, like HSBC, but these applications can take a long time to be processed (versus 2 days for a Nochex account) and are not always successful. In the short run it is a good idea to get an account with a Nochex, PayPal or Worldpay in order to build up a trading history, which will help you to get accepted for other accounts when you need them and get better rates.

Authorize net is probably the most well known Payment Gateway for developers and merchants. There are over 300,000 merchants that use it as their payment gateway. It not only provides extensive API to handle just about everything. It can handle both card-present and card-not-present transactions. If you know how to program, I highly suggest using their services. You can manipulate all your data to suit your needs however you want.

I ended up going with a company called realex, they put me in touch with a company that can provide a Internet Merchant Account. Im having to draw up a business plan and then im going to apply once i have a IMA i can use the technology that realex has on there servers to integrate a secure payment gateway on my website.
