Paypal and affect on SSNs?
Let's say hypothetically speaking you were allowed access to your friend's or relatives SSN and info. Would you be able to make an eBay and Paypal account with that info and sell under $50k a year without affecting their credit or jeopardizing them in any way personally?
If tax would be an issue would the IRS really come looking for sales under $50k a year or would your own tax accountant somehow be able to pay those taxes for the person in question?

Re: Paypal and affect on SSNs?
Well I bet they would be in jeopardy. Since there is no receipts for the items bought, the whole 50k will be taxed. Taxes on 50k would be about 10k? and the IRS would want that money. Then there is the gift tax owed by giving you the money. Dont forget if there were some sales of replicas, or even shoddy merchandise where they might get sued. And if your doing this without permission, its identity theft which is a crime. Not an attorney, but seems like a quick way to get busted!
Hopefully someone else can speak up.

I would say yes to the first question and no the second! You should be able to set up an ebay and paypal account without a social security number (paypal may change this soon). Whatever you sell on ebay should have no affect on their credit report. Ebay would only report to the major CRA (credit reporting agencies) if you owed them money.
Taxes being reported by Paypal to the IRS should start to take affect early next year (2012). If you
- You receive $20,000 or more during the year (gross payments, not net).
- You process at least 200 transactions.
Hope that helps

True...and I strongly suggest not to do anything like that.
But If you insist on doing this stuff you better buy them at like 30$ for 1k from some russian instead of messing with your own relatives.

Re: Paypal and affect on SSNs?
This is probably one of the worst ideas I have ever heard. You are not only putting your family member's credit and identities into jeopardy, but also your relationships with these people. You obviously care about these people enough to try and figure out a way not to ruin their credit, so I would probably not try anything fishy.
