I would like to start a non-profit. I've got two business names that are similar. The name of the business can help dictate the success of the business.

How can I beta test the two names to see which is more popular without giving away the names?

I think you have a paradox my friend. Can't solve a problem without a known variable.

Go with the shorter one. OR, maybe flip a coin. No, actually I would ask a trusted friend. Does one rhyme? Nah just use the shorter one.

You're Welcome ;)

If the business is easily relatable to most people just go around asking your friends which one they like. But if its not and its about something like link building and most your friends would be real confused if you asked, just pick yourself.

Thanks for all the great opinions so far. I appreciate the help.

Ok. how about something like surveymonkey. I could send out a survey to x amount of people and simply ask. I could register or incorporate both names first I suppose to keep both options open. That would cost me an extra $1000 bucks which is no biggie but it's only worth it if you planned on really testing both first.

I guess my thinking is, if Nike or Gatoraid or any other mainstream company was going to release a product, they would always test it out first. Even songs on the radio are tested in certain segments before released to the public. Those companies aren't just asking their best friends either. I realize this all may cost a bit more, but testing works in my humble experience.

For example...Would it matter to you if it was "The American Cancer Society" or the "The American Society for Cures"?

What's your opinion?

Good point. If you really do want to do a test, then you should just ask people you trust in person. Once you put it on the internet, very easy someone else will take it.

The notion at this point is to take a larger sample. I have mixed results asking people I know and trust unfortunately.
