Ok, admittedly I am a jackass for not realizing/considering this before. But here's the brief situation:

I opened this current paypal account (same account I've done all my ebay business with for almost 2 years now) over 5 years ago under my 'then' girlfriend's name. This was due to the fact that some European fucktard hacked my primary paypal back then and got me for over $2500 (which I recouped, but paypal never un-restricted the account after that).

Thus I was forced to open an account under her name, as it would not let me open up another paypal account under my own name and same address as my previous account.

Fast forward to now. Of course almost everyone realizes Paypal's new policy makes them report gross Paypal income of 20k or over during the year of 2011 to the IRS. This scares me, as I've already done more than that in just half the year. And as previously stated, the account is still under my ex's name, even though my name is listed under the main address as well as all associated credit cards and bank accounts. Don't even ask me how I was able to add my own credit cards and bank accounts even though the account was under her name. Paypal is a joke.


Considering all this info, is Paypal going to be reporting the IRS info for this account under her name? I'm assuming her, as of course every paypal account is linked to an ssn. I'm really sweating this, as we're long broken up and she's now married to someone else and I don't want this affecting her whatsoever. And of course, paypal being awesome as they are, you cannot change the main name of the Paypal account under any circumstances.

It just sucks because over time I've built up this account as a Business account with absolutely no restrictions. Having to open up a new paypal account and endure the countless security freezes, etc. would suck major ass. But the main factor right now is how it may or may not affect my ex. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

I believe the only thing you may be able to do is get paypal to use a EIN (Federal Tax ID) instead of a ssn. If you already have one then get them to add it to the account instead of a ssn if you do not you can apply online and once you have it then get them to use it.

Just make sure the EIN business name matches the business name you are using on Paypal and you should be able to get it added to your account at which point any reporting they do will be reported using the EIN and that will be tied to you not the ex.
