join some blog communities specifically geared towards creating a community with your blog. blogcatalog.com, mybloglog.com, and the likes are great starts. To get traffic, blogexplosion does nicely as well (not recommended if you have google adsense on your site). There are tons of communities you can join to get traffic and build up some loyal readers.

Buy a domain name. It's cheap and it helps out a lot. People are lazy and don't remember blahblah.wordpress.com if they want to visit your site. Get a simple, short, domain name. And what do you know, easydietoptions.com is available.

Add a PayPal "Donate Now" button.

"If you like this blog, please consider donating."

That works surprisingly well. :-)

Yes you can put ads on your blog.

I would recommend that you put up email signup box. Say you will give more tips and such if they sign up. This way you can start to build a list of potential customers that you can push other products onto later.

Well, you could always check out my sig below. In addition, spend a week or two just reading through these forums. If you go back far enough, there's gold in them thar' hills.

i would tell you to first try to promote your site and get good traffic. Then only start advertising campagins on your site.

move off wordpress, as they do not allow adsense... yet...
