I am not an expert, but 1 click out of 10 should be superb rate.

because traffic.
More traffic you get to a website, greater your ad clicks. And you can always tweak your ad placement and ad display to get the best conversion rate you can for your niche. It's all about tweaking and testing and collecting data. IM is not easy, no one is banking overnight.
Shoot me a PM with details if you need any help bettering your ad conversions. I'll see what I can do to help.
The answer stands within your question.
If 9 out of 10 people won't click on ads, 1 of them may do.
And if 10% of your traffic is likely to click an ad, you're off to a nice CTR.
They do click if they see ads related to their search and interest.
My personal CTR is about 3%, a rate I'm very happy with imo![]()
Most of ads are not placed in exact niche, thats why people not click the ads.
But 1/10 is good CPC rate.
Atleast someone clicks your ad. Get more traffic.
People do find related ads and do click, even if I am doing IM, and I know about the ads and how they work, sometimes I click on ads if the offer is really interested and attractive.
I used to think the same way as you, until I found that when I browse my own adsense sites from my girlfriends pc, the ads shown are a lot different than from my own labtop, which can only mean that the ads shown are depending on the users browser history (cookies I guess?) so they are often times relevant to the user.
E.g. I often see the fiverr ad from adsense, and if I didn't already know that site I would unquestionably have clicked on it if I saw it somewhere else.
The ones that I think are scaring people away are those poorly made "doctors hate her, see how you can fix your skin problems for free" and "grow your dick in 48 hours" but I wouldn't even be surprised if a lot of young people with low self esteem click on those types of ads even if they look ridiculous to others.
There's something for everybody, if you get 1/10 conversion, you have a winner and it's all about increasing traffic from there. 10% is great!

Most of us would die for 10% conversion lol.
But what i find more interesting is this: If ads are not targeted to the subject of the website but users browsing history, how the heck should you target high cost keywords? Say i have a site about weight loss, spend time and money to rank for expensive keywords, only to see that users are getting their "personalized" ads?

Just imagine 100 visits = 1 click...
1 click = 1$...
1000 traffic/day = 10$/day...
1/10 is damn good! Just get more traffic, it is a numbers game.

I get around 40% CTR on my sites; and I cookie them all with retargetting codes. (that way I can stalk them anywhere the go online)
I've got an average 2% rate. And yes I would (almost) die for a 10% rate. $$$$$$$$ or to me £££££££££.
I think ads shown to a user are based mostly on their browser cookies/cache/history whichever one your browser can peer into. Most ads I see I don't click because I'm not interested eg if adsense keeps sticking up ads for a site I visited once. I have noticed with some of my sites I get ads based on that sites niche not what I've been viewing.
I have some sites with ctr of 1-2%, others up to 12%Depends on niche, content and design
Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day.
Teach a man to fish, and you ruin a wonderful business opportunity.
It's all about the traffic you get. I'm having a similar issue on one of my sites. There just isn't enough targeted traffic coming in so they have no desire to click the ads.
You and I and most BHW members will not click an adsence banners, but a lot of people will, my brother, mam, dad, college's just the regular people browsing the web will click. Think like them and not as yourself. I always ask my wife, she does not now anything from website's and marketing. I test with her, when she clicks the ads then everyone will click on it :-)
10 % CTR is really nice . as i can't even make more then 3% ctr rate .some people are really lucky to get such rate .
Dont worry just keep blogging you will surely get lotta of money with such rate.
Get all the traffic you can
i have played with adsense for some time and i have found its better to target high cpc keywords even if there is high competition because there is always still plenty of pie for everybody if you know how to advertise
